John A. Cooke, convicted of misappropriation of funds, arrived at the state penitentiary after a series of legal challenges. Chief Deputy Peters led the escort. Cooke left the county jail by noon and was received by Warden Murphy. He had last meals at Conlon's and Hobbs' before the transfer and expressed resolve as he entered solitary confinement.

Obituary Notice for Mrs. Reynolds with Four Children
The deceased died January 24 after several weeks illness. Born December 2, 1863 in Philadelphia, she moved to Jottet soon after and resided there ever since. Rev. C. G. Reynolds officiated at the church service and Oakwood Interment followed. She is survived by husband and four children Viola Omi Elmer and Ruby. her mother Mia Hoffer died three weeks earlier.

Ottawa police recover ball from impersonator Moloney
Edward Moloney who posed as ex mayor Moloney’s son demanded a twenty dollar reward for taking a Joliet high school basketball. Police seized the ball at Rock Island depot and delivered it to Joliet school authorities. Moloney, a Brown's business college student, had threatened to harm the Joliet team but surrendered the ball after authorities intervened. He is quoted denigrating high school players as "candies."

Heroic Rescue As Boy Is Saved From Icy Hickory Creek
Lester Brett aged seven slid on shell ice with friends near the Second Avenue bridge yesterday afternoon. Bert Barrows a clerk at Potter Grocery leaped into the water and dragged the boy to safety reviving him before taking him home to recover. The boy’s parents thanked Barrows for his brave action and both he and Lester showed no ill effects the next day.
