Death ofEngine Foreman Henry Snapp in Atlanta Train Wreck

Henry Douglass Snapp, 50, foreman of engines for the Southern railroad, died in Atlanta after a Florida Limited excursion train derailed on a Copper Mine Creek trestle near Dallas and Hiram, overturning and pinning him and fellow workers beneath wreckage. He gave a final message to his wife before losing consciousness. Survived by wife and two sons, with services planned in Joliet after body arrival.

Joliet Stove Works Convenes Traveling Salesmen Weeklong School

Joliet Stove Works holds its annual convention for the traveling salesmen from ten states at the Hotel Murroe sample rooms. The event functions as a sales school with extensive instruction on the 1908 line, a banquet planned, and the kickoff for the fall order tour next Monday.

Williamson Wins Verdict for $100 in Rockdale suit

In Rockdale circuit court a jury found for William son in the case against Mellville A Judy, awarding $100 damages over a cow sale dispute. Other matters included Schoenstert v Thomas on insurance premiums, a Rockdale trespass dismissal, and Wickstrom divorce dismissal following an adjustment.

Death of Mrs Ethlinda Leach at Brooklyn

L Leach received notice of the death of his mother Mrs Ethlinda Leach in Brooklyn N Y. She died yesterday at her daughter Mary Hart's home. Born March 1 1818 she lived in Will county near Custer Park 23 years and remained a member of Ottawa Street M E church Joliet. Surviving are three sons and two daughters. Remains to be buried at the family burying ground at Custer Park.

Citizens National Bank names Pilcher president and Bennitt vice president

At a directors meeting Robert Pilcher was elevated to president of Citizens National Bank replacing the retiring C. A. Brown and Fred Bennitt was named vice president while W. G. Wilcox was re elected cashier. The board for 1908 includes Pilcher Ru ben Wilcox Bennitt Braun Cushing Starson Beattie Lyons with Lyons replacing W. Brown. Feagan's Jeweler retires as A G Beattie of Elwood takes his place. Bank deposits rose from under 3600 000 in 1906 to 535 000 in 1907 signaling prosperity. Will County Joliet and First National Banks plan their stockholders meetings next Tuesday.

Mayor Cronin Seriously Ill At Home

Mayor John R. Cronin is critically ill at his home on Oneida street with reports suggesting pneumonia. Local 179 International Brotherhood of Teamsters members are urged to meet at their hall Saturday evening January 11, 1908 to elect officers. A separate note mentions Jay Cadwell, 72, of Battle Creek Michigan, who was killed by a train while aiding an undertaker after another train struck a body.

Librarian vacancy lingers as board delays action

The library board did not name a successor for the late Mrs. Kate Henderson at its last night meeting and will wait until later in the month to act. A new qualifications resolution was adopted requiring technical library training, library and business experience, and recognized executive ability.

Fisher Before Commissioners Over Viaduct Franchise Offer

Joliet and Southern Traction superintendent F A Fisher told the highway commissioners no more than 15000 would be spent on a Jackson street viaduct, and if the E J and E Railway voids the Joliet line franchise Ridgewood residents may wait years for streetcar service. Action on the franchise was deferred pending another meeting.
