Saloon Burglary on Scott and Ohio Streets

Robbers broke a transom at the rear of John Stefanich’s saloon at the Scott and Ohio streets corner, taking $2 in cash and a revolver from the cash register. No liquor was taken. The thief left little clues and detectives are on the case.

Banquet Features Talk and Music Highlight City Evening

The banquet at 6 30 featured talks and musical interludes by William Merrew alderman of the Eighth ward and rival in a billiard contest with Werden Buck from the Fourth. President Hill called for order while praising the work of President Fisher.

Foreign Consul Represented Here in Mulac Case

Attorney E. F. Freund, local representative of Austro Hungarian consul A. Van Nuber in Chicago, to defend John Mulac known as Jack the Dauber and Jack the Slasher. Freund based on North Chicago Street and acting under principal orders. LaSalle County Teachers Association held its annual rally in Ottawa on October 18 with State Superintendent Blair as speaker.

Chicago and Alton to start track elevation immediately

J L O Donnell legal attorney for the road announced at the Roosters meeting that work on track elevation will begin at once. He said Houlihan assured him the project will start this winter rather than wait till spring, addressing delays previously blamed on the railroad.

Assault case set for Saturday in New Lenox

The State charges Geo. Busch and son William Busch farmers near New Lenox with assault with a deadly weapon on Henry Skotn. The case will be heard Saturday at 1 20 pm in Justice Nichols' court. Details were reported earlier in The Republican.

The official board of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church passes a resolution praising Mayor Cronin for forbidding liquor sales to minors. The endorsement is signed by Erwin Thompson and John Moaingo. A copy of the resolution is to be sent to the mayor.

Funeral for Henry Douglas Snapp After Atlanta Wreck

The remains of Henry Douglas Snapp, who died in Atlanta from injuries from a Tuesday wreck on the Southern Trailway, will arrive at midnight. The funeral is expected Saturday. The State University dedicated a new $100,000 auditorium on November 4. The circular building seats 2,500.

Man in drunken break-in threatens resident on North Scott Street

Mike Skundic, drunk and crazed, broke through a door at 1202 North Scott Street and drew a gun in a boarding house, attempting to shoot a man who protested. He struck the resident with the gun, assaulted a boarding house operator, and tore at belongings before detectives detained him. He paid a fine, agreed to cover damages, and was released.

Disorderly house raid leads to multiple arrests

Police raided a disorderly house at 1105 North Street early today and jailed three men and five women including Alice Jones and James Harter. Court actions followed with several defendants pleading not guilty and others fined for disorderly conduct. City officials ordered the inmates to leave within days under threat of jail, as part of a wider crackdown on such establishments.
