James B. Mitchell a 45 year old E J and E employee killed himself during a visit to his wife and two daughters in Champaign after a letter to a married daughter revealed his intent to kill his wife and die with her. The couple had an unhappy 23 year marriage marked by jealousy and strain following a bar collision incident at Cardiff.
The ruling from Washington says sending invitations through the mails to parties where bridge whist or other card games are played for prizes violates federal lottery laws. Assistant Postmaster General E. P. Goodwin notes the decision targets society circles nationwide, sparked by a Hartford bridge whist enthusiast who queried whether such prizes count as a lottery.
Rockdale mill of American Steel & Wire Co halted half the drawing room after a main shaft fractured near a bearing. Superintendent F. D. Haynes says a belt and flywheel 200 feet long could have caused a fatal collapse. About seventy five workers affected. repairs under Illinois Steel help, mill expected back by next Tuesday.
Mayor Cronin reported a slight rheumatism attack after the Elks Minstrel production and feared missing the Rivers and Harbors Congress in Washington next week. Joliet plans to depart Monday night or Tuesday morning with nearby city delegations and Ottawa Mayor Patrick urged joining the trip.
In Chicago at the International Stock Show the Suffolk Flock Registry Association elected Will Comen as vice president and E B Palmer to the directorate at its annual meeting. Finch Bros. of Joliet won multiple prizes including first and third for four animals by one sire and first and second for two animals by one dam.
Members of the Senior Athletic Association of the Steel Works club will be entertained at a banquet at the club house this evening. A number of new members will be initiated. Saturday night the Steel Works basketball team will travel to Braidwood to meet the Braidwood team.

She leaves her husband two children two sisters Mrs W J Keenan and Mrs T W Larson of St Louis Mo and brothers Rank Edward and Albert of Cincinnati. Funeral from her mothers home Sunday at 1 30 pm to Sacred Heart church at 2 Interment Mt Olive cemetery.
A new ruling by the department requires civil service examinations for fourth class postmasters east of the Mississippi and north of the Ohio. The policy change affects postal operations and qualification standards across several states.
An executive order places about 15 000 fourth class postmasters east of the Mississippi and north of the Ohio into civil service. Current officeholders are exempt from exams. In Grundy and La Salle counties eleven and twenty one offices are affected, with named postmasters and towns listed.
Special correspondent reports in Rockdale that the November 22 stabbing at Martin Zager's saloon left Michael Radakovich fatally wounded by Michael Busta. The killer remains at large and has vanished from the scene.
Kath ry n Sullivan was granted a divorce from Maurice S. Sullivan in Circuit court and given custody of their infant with alimony of 10 dollars a month until further orders. The action cited desertion and nonsupport, noting they were married June 30, 1903 and that the husband deserted in 1905.

A small rubbish fire at a residence at 314 Plaind Street caused a light blaze in a front yard. Fire department crews arrived quickly and extinguished the flames with a line of hose water. No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
