A regional commission and city attorneys plan to notify rail lines Rock Island Michigan Central and E and E to install gates at a protected railroad crossing amid ongoing safety concerns.
The Board of Highway Commissioners launched a safety drive against dangerous crossings. Attorneys were told to notify three railroads E J E railroad Michigan Central and Rock Island to install night watchmen gates and lights at specified crossings in Cass street Jackson street East Washington street and Manning avenue. Additional crossings will be addressed soon.
Attorney General Stead rules the amendments to the state banking act are entirely prospective. Directors must own at least ten shares to serve, current directors below that may finish their terms. The auditor gains authority to act on impairment, fraud, or unsafe conduct and must enforce reserve minimums for Country and Chicago banks.
The Olivet College Glee Club or Treble Clef Chorus performs a refined quiet program of sixteen singers led by Elizabeth Bintliff. Mabel Alice Hungerford and Jessie Trotter are among the local and visiting members as they tour for ten concerts, with shows in Plainfield, Kimball Hall, and the Chicago Conservatory. The program features a varied selection from Hey Ladies to The Mustard Plaster and The Lost Chord with performances by Hungerford and Trotter among others.
Alfred Wenberg wins a personal injury case brought by Christ Peterson seeking 5000 dollars over a broken leg. The court found Wenberg not guilty and dismissed the action.
In a circuit court action Joseph Snyder sues John Eich for the value of a cow claimed infected with tuberculosis. Eich contends identity fraud and asserts the sold animal was healthy and dressed less than alleged. The case follows a separate personal injury suit verdict of not guilty for Christ Peter son vs Alfred Wenberg.
In County court Harry Walsh known as a slot machine magnate pled guilty to twenty gambling counts and was fined 19 dollars and costs on each count totaling 306.85 dollars. The case notes a separate divorce cross-bill in Frank Dreher vs Mary Dreher with Mary claiming lack of consent to laundry duties to support her husband. Charlotte Nassi was granted a divorce from G Nassi by Judge Marshall. A masquerade is listed at Armory rink on Tuesday night December 8.
In Waukegan on December 5 Miss Jessie Huston daughter of former Will County sheriff Robert Huston visited with fiancé C. M. Giffen the district leader baritone. Whispered reports claim an announcement may come soon. Huston a stage veteran known for The Flower of the Ranch and vaudeville appeared with the company from Appleton.
Ida J Iverson seeks separate maintenance and injunction against husband John Iverson and Fisher Construction Co claiming cruel treatment and threats to life. She cites eight children eldest twelve, marriage on December 23 1895, separation December 4, recent sprees, and asks for care custody provisions. Judge Marshall granted the without bond injunction.
Charity appeal urges early contributions to Salvation Army baskets for families. Readily listed items include beef or chicken, butter, bread, potatoes, coffee or tea, celery, pie, canned corn or peas, condensed milk, sugar, cranberries, fruit, and candy. The McKenna mill will reopen Monday after a three week shutdown. Orders will keep the plant busy for weeks and then skilled workers will transfer to the Jersey plant to remake 11 000 tons of rail. Two hundred local workers may follow, with five expert straighteners joining the Jersey presses.
Mrs Edward Wendling of the old Munch farm near Jolet Mound suffered a broken collarbone when a Cass street car pole was jerked from its socket at Clinton and Chicago streets. She was crossing about 2 45 pm and carried to Stillman drug store for aid. The accident caused shock in addition to injuries.
William H. Walsh sues Henry A. Herzog for 9.50 and Herzog appeals the case from justice court to the County court.
Justice Jackson dismissed the liquor sale charge against Joseph Tucek after prosecuting witnesses failed to appear. Tucek of 1719 North Broadway denied the accusation alleging he stored beer Saturdays and sold it to a Sunday visitor.
Forefathers Supper scheduled for December 15 at First Presbyterian Church. Only 275 tickets will go on sale Tuesday morning December 5 at F. E. Marsh and F. W. Schroeder stores, each ticket covers a plate at Electric Park table. Excursion rates 25 and 15 cents on Sunday December 6.
Michael J. Dunn longtime general agent for the E J and E and C L S and E died at his Onespa Street home at 936 this morning. He served many years in the railroad service and was widely known in the region. The obituary notes his career spanned multiple lines and his loss is mourned by colleagues and family. He is survived by relatives in the area.

Mr and Mrs Jacob Engimann of 1214 South Richards street observed their silver wedding anniversary with a 6 o clock seven course dinner for fifty guests. The pink and white decor featured ferns as Frances Engimann Lydia Oswald and Master Clarence Engimann contributed informal musical selections. Mr Engimann came from Switzerland thirty six years ago and has been a prominent milk dealer for seventeen years.
Chief Engineer Harris of the Roe Island railroad and city engineer Stevens met in the city this morning to discuss proposed changes for amendments to the track elevation ordinance. Authority Hag stated the city will grant the changes, with no dow granted concerning easions the council will seek, including subways at streets often mentioned.
Mr W S West 210 North Street announces a new line of a talking machine called Victrolo noted as finest of its kind. He invites customers to view the new machine and has added Edison records. The ad also mentions Electric Park skating and a masquerade excursion on a Sunday night in December with 15 cent admission.
