Rural High School Chooses Local High Grade Expansion
District 17 known as the Bower district in rural Fairbury area adds ninth and tenth grades to its program to keep local pupils and avoid sending children away. Last spring rural graduates helped fund the plan with $108 for 40 seats. Helen Timmel of Ostern hired to teach ninth and tenth grades as the one-room facility was divided to accommodate the new classes. The board reports enough tuition subscribed to make the high school self sustaining.
