A 64 foot long vessel weighing 32 000 tons rises as an all electric battleship powered by two 16 000 horsepower generators driving a gun turret system and propulsion to 21 knots. The ship also uses electricity for anchor handling loading firing pumps lighting and many onboard tasks including kitchens laundry and hospital sterilization.
Miss Lizzie Toews and John Dalke wed at Ebenezer Church near Jansen on Sunday afternoon November 13. Rev B O Kroeker presided. The bride is the Henderson Toews daughter and the groom the four mile west of Jansen Dalké son. A large crowd attended the ceremony and relatives later gathered for a reception at the groom’s parental home.
Members of the Women’s Auxiliary under Mrs H Al Friesen organize an entertainment and supper at Bartel’s hall in Jansen on Wednesday evening November 23 1921. Invitations extend to all Legion and Auxiliary members their families county residents and Jansen citizens. The event features free supper and community singing with Mrs Myrtle opening the program.
Ed Hughes Sr a seven seven year old pioneer of the community died at home three miles southeast of Jansen after about a month of illness. He is survived by four children including Ed T Hughes and daughters Mrs John Rohrbaugh Sadie and Alice. Funeral date pending due to absence of relatives traveling in California and Oregon.
Community notes from Jansen and Fairbury cover births illnesses and travel. A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs A D Friesen on Monday November 14. Mrs Russell Campbell lies ill with typhoid near Harbine while Mrs Henry Arnold assists. Emil Wittler underwent tonsil surgery Friday with hemorrhage risk. A school event and supper are planned for December 2 at Dist. No 59. Tanlac ads appear as well as cattle shipments and local travel reports.
Notice files a state mass convention in Grand Island on December 8 1921 to organize a new Nebraska political party and county mass conventions on December 3 1921 to elect delegates. Delegates to reflect county votes with roughly equal male and female representation. The report also notes a stork shower hosted by Mrs Retzlaff Mrs Wegele and Mrs Cressman for Rosella May Flaming at the Ratzlaff home near Jansen Paxton.
A Ladies Mission Society auction will be held at the M B Church in Jansen on Thanksgiving Day at 1 30 in the afternoon November 24. A cordial invitation is extended to the public.
President Harding proclaims that the war between the United States and Germany ended on July 2, 1921. The text cites joint resolutions and a Berlin signed treaty ratified by both nations and exchanges dated November 11, 1921. Subsequent lines note public release and witnesses.
Mr. Evans reports 70 trees produced $440 worth of apples at the Seward County Fair surpassing expected corn yields in a normal year. He sold 180 bushels at $2.50 to $3.00 per bushel, kept some for home use, and notes pruning spraying and feeding as keys to fruiting.
