Fellow workers John Merritt and Robinson escaped severe harm, saved by quick action from Nutter who pulled the wire free and performed artificial respiration until John revived.

Agricultural College Lincoln recommends soil saving dam to retard gulley growth. An outlet tube of tile or monolithic concrete sits on a firm footing with the upstream end raised as a vertical intake. An earth fill covers the tube, blocking flood water and forming a pond to the depth of the intake.

Meny Threshing Machines Near Fairbury Operations
About 25 threshing outfits operate around Fairbury with average yields of 17 to 18 bushels per acre. The highest reported yield is 4715 bushels on a small field owned by W. C. Buckmeier, nine miles south of town, as grain buyers haul in from about 15 machines. Some grain sells at 1.05 to 1.10 dollars per bushel, while much is stored in elevators for now.

Reports from Experiment Stations and farmers show early fall plowing for wheat and fall sown alfalfa improves soil moisture absorption and seed bed quality. Benefits include 5 to 10 bushels more wheat per acre and weed suppression. If harvest delays plowing, disk immediately after cutting and stack grain to allow plowing right after rains.
