Telegraph reports Mrs. H A Friesen had another operation last Friday. John P Thiessen from Rochester Minnesota says she is recovering well and hospital notes show improvement beyond expectations. This marks her eighth major operation with prior injuries from an Xito wreck near Lincoln.
Last Saturday in Jansen, cars lined along Main Street were moved to the center to create a clear roadway. Citizens and visiting auto enthusiasts praised the arrangement, and the village marshal ordered continued middle street parking. The weather was ideal and a large crowd observed the setup.
Purchasers who pledge to buy 1000 dollars in War Savings Stamps in 1918 are eligible for membership in the Limit Club. Each member will receive a handsome engraved card from Ward M Burgess Nebraska War Savings Director, framed and evidencing their response to the country’s call. Community members with 690 to 800 dollars can obtain the card with a little more effort by reporting to their precinct War Savings committeeman after signing pledge cards totaling 1090 dollars.
Red Cross solicitations call for donated articles to be sold at an auction in Fairbury on March 14 1918 proceeds to the Red Cross fund. Canvassing in the county and precincts begins with plans for town participation. Notables include B P Rataloff auction March 5 at his place 24 miles east of Jansen. Local residents like Carl Brockmeyer Linda Penner Anna Paul and the Veiths are noted with community visits and church service. Weather notes report a warm weekend followed by a wind storm and a drop in temperature.
Mr and Mrs Andrew Schroeder of Hillsboro Kansas visited Jansen on Saturday and Sunday to see Prof W An Schroeder, the note of the trip indicating a family visit and eventful weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Ratalaff and son and Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Penner and children, took Sunday dinner with Brad Wall's.
