Tragic Timber-Tree Accident Near Jansen
John Solomon, a young worker for fa Milby about 7 miles northwest of Jansen, was crushed when a felled tree rolled onto him. He died after being found around 3 PM, having been pinned from about 10 AM. The incident followed a morning timber-cutting trip and occurred amid a busy local scene with sales and social notes in Jansen.

Infant dies and local notices from Jansen area
The infant child of Mr and Mrs D D Thiessen died Monday night. Mr Jacob Peters of Inman Kansas came Sunday to see his sister Mrs J F Fast who has been very ill with pneumonia but is slowly recovering. The little daughter of Mr and Mrs H A Thiessen is improving. Children of Jacob Bartel report parents in Battle Creek Michigan where Mr Bartel is taking treatment and believes it helps. A sale last Saturday at the home of father A W Fast proceeded despite wind and some telegraph lines were out Monday. Henry Sturmer renewed his News subscription. Mr and Mrs Fr A Friesen visited Sunday at the seen home. C Janzen bought the barber business in Jansen, Alex Res stays on to help. Mr and Mrs J E Grebe arrived from Rochester Minnesota where operated for bladder trouble. Henry Zimmerman delivered mail on routes 1 on Mon Tue. A sale bill by I M Friesen J B Ratzlaff I H Harms for the I M Friesen place two miles east of Jansen next Wednesday February 14. The Fifth Regiment Nebraska National Guard is returning home and expected to arrive Fort Crook today. The Fremont signal corps and first battalion of the Fifth infantry left Llano Grande on the first section of Nebraska train Feb 5. In the Fifth there are fifteen officers and 597 men. The signal corps and sanitary detachment number 96. John P Thiessen will hold his annual bred sow sale later this month. Watch for sale bills.

Ford Offers Detroit plant for wartime munitions work
Washington February 5 Ford peace advocate offered Secretary of the Navy Daniels use of his Detroit auto factory for government munitions work and to operate it without profit. Ford pledged time and labor if war declared, joining Bethlehem Steel, United States Steel, Remington and Winchester in offering services to the government.
