A banquet at Bartels Hall Thursday honored Jansen Band members and families. An all hands dinner followed by a pleasing program showed thanks to those who sustain the band. A benefit concert is planned for February to replenish the band treasury, with details appearing in this issue.
A historic note explains that soap making is a craft that can be learned at home. It offers practical steps for gathering fats both animal and vegetable, clarifying burnt or dirty grease, and purifying materials with minimal salt content and water.

A back to back Nebraska storm battered the state after mild spells. Trees and poles toppled as sleet and fierce winds cut power and communication lines. Jansen to Fairbury line broke, repairs slow amid ongoing outages and candlelit homes.
The harvest of chickens can be steered by careful stock selection. Cull aggressively, removing late hatchers, immature birds, deformed hens, and weak or inactive birds with poor eyes or crooked limbs to ensure better future flock performance.
W E Straub visited from Lincoln on business while Mrs Jacob Brandt visited Beat Rice to consult a doctor. Local residents travel to Omaha Hebron Lincoln and Beatrice for work and medical matters. Jansens basketball team defeats Endicott and Daykin, and Jansen High School beats Fairbury Juniors.
Beatrice endures water shortages traced to long term mismanagement of the public utility. After Bla River flooding contaminated wells and a recent well collapse, the city, like Omaha last summer, faced a hazardous shortage that imperiled health and left homes and the new Paddock hotel without usable water for days.
A student seeks a course to head a railroad system. The professor notes a $20 000 cost and twenty years, but suggests spending $300 and three months to get elected to Congress, after which one could influence many railroad systems.
Funeral services for D. P. Franz, father of Mrs. D F Isaac of the Alexandria vicinity, were held at Ebenezer Church near Jansen on February 3. Interment followed in Jansen Cemetery. He died January 27, 1924, at the Isaac home.
A farewell party was hosted at Rev. eRewers home Friday night for Ben R. Friesen and family who travel to Paxton Nebraska to farm. About twenty three guests attended despite bad roads. Refreshments of sandwiches pie and coffee were served. Prayer by Rev. Rogers and the group sang God Be With You Till We Meet Again. Gladys Kinamon of Fairbury visited Mary Heidelk Saturday.
