Fire destroys Fairbury department store and adjoining building
A Saturday morning blaze in Fairbury destroyed the J. W. McDonnell & Co. Department Store basement fire near the furnace. Firefighters, aided by hoses from Jensen, battled seven streams of water but the building and the adjoining Mttonwell and Elk Headquarters were total losses. Estimated damage likely over 200000 with stock values over 125000.

Tragedy in Diller as Mrs Wesenberg dies after cellar fall
Mrs F W Wesenberg living with her husband south of Diller fell in their cellar early Tuesday. Physicians believe a stroke caused the fall and death occurred that afternoon. Funeral at 1 pm from the house and 2:30 pm at St Pauls Lutheran. An obituary will follow next week. Red Cross notes list regular sewing and garment cutting sessions and a lengthy roster of volunteers.

Army and Navy Day at the Omaha Auto Show will be held February 25 to March 2 in Omaha. Soldiers and sailors in uniform will be admitted free, with a special display of war automobiles used on the French front. A tractor show is postponed to next year, with only a few tractor displays this time.
