Wolf Hunt Friday Near Cub Creek

The community awaits the wolf hunt in Cub Creek precinct on Friday. A large number of wolves are believed in the area and captains have been noted on hand bills for the lines. The Geo. Ackman place hosts the roundup and wolves killed will be sold at auction.

A hurriedly prepared program by Miss Snyder and her pupils at District 59 schoolhouse on December 7 impressed guests with songs and dialogues well rendered for the short prep time. Refreshments, upstairs room lounge, and games followed, as Victrola music and remarks by Mr. Peter Gill plus tricks by Mr. Dan Brandt entertained attendees.

Nebraska farmers win $1,039,100 in loans via 61 banks

In two days after organizing the Omaha branch of the War Finance corporation, farm loans totaling 1 039 100 were approved through 61 Nebraska banks. One hundred Nebraska bankers met in Omaha and organized the State Agricultural Loan association to convert slow credits into needed funds.

M H Weeks Dies at Fairbury Nebraska Pioneer

M Hi Weeks an early Fairbury settler died at his home at age 80. He arrived in 1870 and started a lumber yard before a railroad existed. Survived by his wife with no children he retired from business about fifteen years ago.

Mrs J G Peters Dies at Wymark Saskatchewan

Mrs J G Peters mother of Mrs A B Thiessen of Jansen Saskatchewan died at her Wymark home about two weeks ago after a period of illness. Her husband found her dead the following morning after giving her water. The Peters family formerly lived in Jansen.

The Nebraska College of Agriculture explains mulch benefits for strawberry beds. Mulch prevents heaving from freeze thaw cycles, protects from dry winter winds, conserves spring moisture, reduces weeds, and can retard spring blooming if desired. Wheat straw is ideal but may germinate. oat straw packs. prairie hay and cornstalks are unsuitable. Apply after first freeze, spread 4 to 6 inches between and over rows.

The U S shipping board will contract for scrapping five of its 280 wooden ships to gauge recoverable value. An exact record will track salvage costs and returns from machinery lumber and equipment to determine if the entire fleet should be scrapped. Nebraska ranks fourth in the nation in hay production per a Bureau of Publicity census report. New York leads with 6,264,685 tons, followed by Minnesota 5,665,616, Iowa 5,848,102, while Nebraska produced 5,307,720 tons.
