Bankers Reluctant On Fingerprint Plan

State bankers show limited enthusiasm for a proposal by J. E. Hart Secretary of the State Banking Board to require all bankers in the state to have their fingerprints taken. Hart proposed the measure after the disappearance of E. A. Rasher cashier of the State Bank of Octavia who left no trace of identity. An Omaha banker suggested testing the plan on oil promoters first before applying it to bankers.

Narrow escape after highway collision near Coffman yard

A serious auto accident nearly occurred on the highway two miles from town when Harry Soucey’s car following the Milton Coffman vehicle veered and turned into the Coffman place, landing in a ditch beside the culvert. No one was hurt though Soucey’s front wheel shattered and the wreck involved both cars. the drivers and occupants escaped with minor injuries.

Prairie Fire Dangers and Firebreak Advice

Prairie fires cause heavy damage each season as dry grass catches from a spark. Avoid starting fires by clearing a ten to twenty foot fire break around planned burns and plowing ahead of the blaze to starve it of fuel.

Escaped Nebraskan Convicts Captured After Daylong Pursuit

John Horton and Henry Slack, two inmates who fled Nebraska State Penitentiary, were recaptured near Plymouth after an all day chase led by W. T. Fenton. Horton was caught near between Clatonia and Plymouth. Slack surrendered at 7 30 PM after eluding pursuers until then. They were returned to Lincoln and placed in solitary, fed bread and water. On the return trip, fingerprint expert Hans Nielson and penitentiary clerk James O Connell were injured when their car veered into a ditch.

Large Attendance at Mission Festival on Cab Creek

The Evangelical St. Pauls Church mission festival on Cab Creek drew a large crowd despite crowded seating as sermons on Home and Foreign Mission impressed attendees. A free will offering for mission work reached 303 dollars, with two Sundays slated for no services due to Rev. E. Vogt’s absence for events in Guide Rock Syracuse and Lincoln.

North Platte deputies foil a jail break as four inmates dig through a brick wall in the cell house. The bricks were hidden inside the wall when Deputy Roy Wilson discovered the plan as the men prepared to crawl out.
