Detectives trap Herman by using Stembel as the middle man in a staged $1000 ransom, with $17 offered as an advance. Mrs Herman denies involvement and is arrested. The couple faces Police Court.
Miss Hortense Abromet living at 1127 North Illinois street was arrested by Detectives Wallace and Holtz on arson and entering a house to commit felony. Bond set at 5000 but she could not post. Marsh, next door neighbor and secretary of Marsh Sanborn Electric, alleged she ruined his dining room furniture in a Monday morning fire. Detectives found muddy shoe prints and a broken window with a chair near the window matching the tracks. Abromet denied the charge, later wept in custody, and will face Police Court today.
Reports from Castle Loo say Queen Wilhelmina’s health remains grave with doctors holding another late night consultation. Officials note a slight temperature rise followed by a quiet sleep, yet she stays extremely weak and unable to take nourishment since Saturday.
