New York July 9 Supreme Court Justice Keogh in White Plains refused to set aside a 50000 dollar verdict for Peter F. McLaurin of Mount Vernon against the Cuba Company. McLaurin was hired to prospect Cuban lumber lands and promised one stock share valued at 50000 dollars. After his discharge and nonpayment of stock, he sued and won judgment. Morgan and Van Horn are stockholders. The company valued one share at 50000 dollars to avoid forcing stockholders to testify.
George Fisher, resident of Pittsburg, sought to tell Mrs. McKinley a crucial disclosure about her husband’s assassination. A colored porter said she was too ill to receive visitors. Fisher reported his tale to Mayor J H Robertson after an earlier attempt to see Senator Hanna in Cleveland failed. He alleges anarchists placed a $60,000 reward on his head and says five assassination attempts were made. Township trustees provided him a ticket to Pittsburg to leave Canton.
The petition filed in M Rostand's name to reopen the Gross Mansfield case was withdrawn on instructions from Rostand. Attorney William Barry said the playwright had no involvement in last week's filing, which was done at the request of a near relative through the French consul in Chicago.
