At Williston Florida on December 9 a clash between white men and a group of armed negro workers near the Newberry phosphate mines left two negroes dead and two whites wounded. Whites Ulmer Flowers Roy Landran N Landran and M Colley drove to Newberry armed. They met a negro group with Winchester rifles in the road and exchanged fire. Two negroes were captured and turned over to the sheriff.
The Times reports plans to merge National Broadway Seventh National and Mercantile National Banks. The combined Mercantile National may have capital and surplus near $1000. Key figures include Charles W Morse, Miles M O'Brien, Ed R a William, and Charles T Barsey Schenck.
R. E. Kirkman of Richmond withdraws leaving Lafayette Representative Marshall with a clear path to the speakership. Sayre and Morgan exit, boosting Marshall as the likely nominee by acclamation amid talks of caucus chair and floor leadership changes in the Indiana Legislature.

The nominations committee will meet this afternoon at 4 in Room 2 at the Grand Hotel to nominate association officers. A vacancies committee will meet there at the same hour in the chairman’s room. The Standard Oil Company unveiled a general pension program mirroring railroad schemes. Eligible employees reaching sixty four after twenty five years may retire on half pay for one year, then receive a regular pension of one fourth of their final earnings. The plan covers those with twenty five years of service and age fifty five, with several employees retiring on January 1.
