In Laguayra, Dec 11, General Ferrera arrives with 2000 troops and eight guns to defend against foreign forces. Castro’s brother leads 800 men en route, and 926 Laguayra volunteers arm themselves. Ammunition piles at Fort La Vigia as the city readies for possible combat near the harbor. The capture of the gunboat Bolivar sparks national tension.
All other warships have left Laguayra as Minister Haggard and Herr Von Pilgrim Baltazzi departed on board the Retributer and Vineta. The Zamora and Veinte Teres de Mayo were seized in the Gulf of Paria and brought to Port of Spain by the British sloop Alert.
