A collision occurred as Motorman Yan dell talked with a young woman on the front platform. After the crash the woman was removed unconscious from beneath the motorman. In Missouri near Mexico, the Chicago and Alton dispatch exploded boiler of No. M train killed brakeman Harry C. Markwell from Slater and fatally injured L M Stevenson and L C Shattlenberg, with J T McMahan of Springfield and M O Page of Slater seriously hurt. The boiler blast hurled the locomotive, derailing nine cars across two hundred yards.
