The Legion Auxiliary presents 25 American flags to schools, including 20 classroom size flags with holders. The junior school receives five identical flag and holder sets.
William Henry Harrison High School student Joel Mondary has earned a Letter of Commendation from the 1986 National Merit Scholarship program. The commendation highlights the student and school as important contributors to this achievement.
Jay A. Risse of East Central High School has been designated Commended Student in the 1986 National Merit Scholarship Program. Principal James Helms announced that Risse will receive a Letter of Commendation for outstanding performance. An NMSC official praised the recognition as a credit to the student and to local schools.
The plan outlines a 28,113 dollar estimated yield from a 19 mill limit for the Super Saturday Program. The high school bonded debt will be paid off in December 1986 and removed from taxes in 1987. Permanent Improvement totals 1.00 outside the 10 mill limit yielding 52,805 dollars. General Fund includes 3.97 inside and 25.61 outside the 10 mill limit. Commissioner George Schiele told the Council about local tax office changes and praised Wanda Haas, noting wage growth and an expected $25,000 revenue rise this year. He forecast 70 percent of tax income from non residents, and announced Elex Electric bid $1323 for conduits and engineering costs of $4850. The courts cost will be shared by city and township. Council plans bids for a new ambulance as part of a $1.7 million waterworks upgrade and sets water rates to become the second at 7:30 p.m. at the community center.
An ad hoc committee was formed along Harrison Avenue to study current zoning and determine if adjustments are needed to support redevelopment. The group aims to assess how the district can adapt to evolving business needs and growth opportunities.
City official Rolfes stated that a 60 percent water rate increase is necessary to support the debt service reserve fund and to enable the city to pursue long term revenue bonds for financing.
