Harrison High School cross country, the Runnin Wildcats, have won two championships in their first three outings this year showing depth rather than reliance on a single star. Tom Nolan led early wins with 17 04, but injury and a knee issue at East Central Invitational tested the squad. Daryl Rider and Jim Chaney anchored the scoring as Ed Thrasher and Steve Barnes stepped up. The Cats later placed well in Cleveland against 130 runners, with Rider 10th, Chaney 12th, Roessler 13th, Eckel 26th, Nolan 27th, Thrasher 40th, Barnes 42nd, and 18 teams beaten overall. The team emphasizes depth, with Thrasher and Barnes contributing as freshmen. Upcoming meets include Mason Invitational on Sept 18, Goshen Invitational on Sept 25, Harrison Invitational on Oct 2, and key league, sectional, district, and state meets through Oct 30.
