Peggy McCracken reports the Franklin County Community School Corporation conducted the Attitude and Needs Assessment survey with 790 randomly selected families to gauge interest in gifted and talented programs. The effort, funded by a $3,000 Mt. Carmel grant, involves a special committee of teachers from Brookville Laurel and Mt. Carmel plus parents. The PACE program from Tippecanoe is piloted, goals include boosting thinking skills and leadership, with existing G/T components like Junior Great Books and a foreign language option for middle grades. Dr. Penny Kolloff will discuss gifted education in Indiana at Brookville Elementary on Oct 25.
