Cincinnati International Folk Festival Celebrates Cultures
Cincinnati residents sampled world cultures at the Cincinnati International Folk Festival held at the Convention Center from November 11 to 13. The 14th annual event included 29 ethnic societies with music, dance, food, cultural exhibits, and merchandise booths. A Friday naturalization ceremony added 53 new citizens including Gert Holaday of Harrison. Featured acts included Welsh, Russian, Irish, Greek, German, and Chinese booths, with memorabilia and demonstrations. Food offerings ranged from Chinese egg rolls to Greek gyros and German bratwurst. Fully costumed participants mingled with attendees wearing heritage buttons. The festival, while modern, remains a melting pot and a popular way to sample diverse cultures, even as it promises a few extra pounds.
