Different Drummer column opens with a personal note
The writer explains the origin of the column title Different Drummer from Thoreau and jokes about being a nonconformist. A village obituary for Mrs. Alice Wilds, a Hoosier named Margie Callan’s honesty, and a bike-a-thon for St Jude raise funds. Several light anecdotes about birthday thanks, a local band Smoke N Ash, and a humorous reflection on age conclude the piece.
