Boy and Girl Athletes Honored At Spring Sports Night
At Harrison Commons on May 22, awards celebrated top teams and players across baseball, softball, girls track, boys tennis and track. Greg Loos earned the Jim Rumpke and Most Valuable Player in baseball honors, posting six home runs and 34 RBIs while batting .500 and going 6 1 as a pitcher. Kevin Radcliffe, a three year starter, received a bat for his multi position play. The Reserve baseball team went 10-0 in league play, while Dave Bader and Jon Roberts shared MVP honors. Jane Werner led Ladycat softball with a .535 average, and Lou Buckley earned the Golden Glove. Tom Harris won Boomer Eckel and Outstanding Athlete awards, setting discus records and leading the 400M relay. The night honored many players across varsity and reserve squads in baseball, softball, track and tennis.

Gajus Named Athletic Director of Southwest Local
Rick Gajus, an art teacher at William Henry Harrison High School, was named athletic director for the Southwest Local School District, effective Aug. 1. He replaces Jerry Bovard, who resigns July 31 after nine years. Gajus, in district nine years, has served as assistant athletic director, golf coach, art department chair, and advisor to pep club, art club, and senior class. The appointment was approved by the school board at its May 24 meeting. He also designed much of the school art, including the Home of the Wildcats mural, and plans more art this summer.

Alcohol Use High Among Area Teens in Harrison
A Harrison area Drug and Alcohol Task Force survey shows alcohol use among teens is widespread, rising with grade level from seventh to senior year. Daily use exceeds 10 percent among senior boys, while weekly use affects about one third of upperclassmen. girls also report weekly use. The Task Force, formed after community meetings, invites participation at its next Harrison High School meeting on May 31 at 7:30 p.m.

Wildcat Auction Set for June 2 at High School Lot
