Youths Run City Council Meeting In Harrison
A youth movement in Harrison politics saw eleven Harrison High School seniors fill city council seats and other posts at the May 17 meeting led by councilman Robert Meeks and high school social studies coordinators Dan Goodfriend and Ken Brater. The seniors shadowed officials, debated governance authority, and discussed an ordinance restricting 15-year-olds from gaming machines without parental supervision, with officials welcoming continued student involvement.

Crosby Elementary Backgammon Tournament Crowned Heather Rettin ger 1983 Champion
Sixth grader Heather Rettin ger won the second annual Crosby Elementary Backgammon Club tournament, part of a 34 member after school group of fourth to sixth graders formed to develop learning skills and have fun. Heather’s plaque will join last year’s winner Kim Bader on a lobby display.

G E D Certificates Awarded At Southwest High School
Last week graduates of the Adult Basic Education program received General Education Development certificates at a Southwest High School ceremony. Since the program began, 86 students have passed the G E D exam. Instructor Lois Bovard received praise for her patience and support.
