Use Heaters With Caution

Kerosene heaters should be used with caution the Greater Cincinnati Carbon Monoxide Safety Committee warns. While steps have been taken to improve safety there are dangers from fire and fumes due to inadequate ventilation. A Hamilton child recently died from fumes from an unvented heater. Follow installation and operation directions. Leave a door or window open for ventilation and keep heaters at least three feet from walls and combustibles. Use clear Grade II kerosene only and store fuel outside living areas. Refill outdoors and do not use for cooking or drying clothes. Inspect weekly for safe operation.
