Appeals Court Upholds Damages in Bar Patron Wreck Case

The First District Court of Appeals upheld a Hamilton County Common Pleas Court verdict of 75,000 for Harrison couple Michael and Carol Draper against Hofbrau Bar owners Miriam and George Phillips. Jury found the bar liable for compensatory 50,000 and punitive 25,000 after bar patrons allegedly served alcohol to Thornton Wilson, who later crashed into the Drapers’ motorcycle. Wilson was convicted of driving while intoxicated and served a month in jail. The case stemmed from a 2.5 million suit alleging bar employee actions contributed to the wreck.
