Morgan Raiders Invade Harrison
An eye opening reminiscence recalls Morgan’s 1863 raid through Harrison and nearby towns. Union troops and local militia halted the Confederate force at the village mill, while residents like Penny's grocery staff sheltered and aided retreating soldiers. Generals Hobart and Shaker elder Rubush coordinated defense as Morgan's march provoked days of alert and rumor-driven fear. Residents later filed claims for losses with Ohio officials, detailing horses seized and other damages, with compensation awarded in line with Morgan Raid Claims.
