The Harrison Ohio newspaper announces its 60th year of reporting area news from 307 Harrison Ave. Readers are informed the paper publishes weekly on Wednesdays and covers local events, stories, and community happenings in Harrison.
Thirty years ago Vera Jean Ritchie announced engagement to H Donald Evans while a son Terry Allen was born weighing 9 lbs 4% ozs at Ft Hamilton Hospital Hamilton Ohio. A new home in Everett Court was sold to Robert G Long as King prepares for Coronation Ball.
Jeff Kelly became State Champion in Class AAA wrestling at 175 pounds, ending a 92 year wait for the school. He went undefeated all season with 33 straight wins and a 68-2-1 two year record. Dennis Steelman placed fifth at 155 pounds, with a 52-11-1 mark, as both represented Harrison among forty district grapplers. Kelley and Hatchett of Withrow were undefeated in their classes.
Crosby United Methodist remained undefeated with a forfeit over Harrison Ave Baptist. Church of Christ defeated First Christian 50 to 39 with balanced scoring led by Mosier Gulley and Vaught, as they moved to 2 and 1 while First Christian dropped to 2 and 2. Harrison Ave Baptist leads the league in scoring at 73 ppg. Public invited to attend.
Applications for the eighth Cincinnati Heart Mini-Marathon on March 24 in Cincinnati Ohio are available. The 9.3 mile race by the American Heart Association Southwestern Ohio Chapter includes a shirt results book and finisher certificate. A March 23 race clinic features running guidance by Bill Squires and COMAIR offers 50 percent fare reductions to registered runners.
The Harrison Girls Softball league holds final sign ups Saturday February 2 and February 9 at the community center from 10 a m to 2 p m. The fee is 12 dollars for one in a family 22 dollars for two with a 30 dollar maximum. Contact Russ Winup at 367 9538 for eligibility in et 208.
In the Oxford AAA sectional the Wildcats return to Millett Hall for a first round game against Hamilton on February 25 at 6 PM. The Big Blue are seeded third behind Oak Hills and Elder with Greenhills at four. Ladycats play February 26 at Cincinnati Technical College at 7 PM, awaiting the Aiken McNicholas winner.
The Harrison Jr Baseball League invites registrations on February 9, 16 and 23 at Lake's Sports from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children must be six before September 1 and not yet 17. Fees are 14 for one child, 26 for two, 36 for three, plus 10 for each additional child. all must attend to be measured for shirts. Umpiring signups are on the same Saturdays.
