East Central year book the Shield earned 940 of 1000 points in a national contest. Judges praised the staff dedication and work behind the yearbook. A Thursday night fire at John Schlemmer Fuel Oil Feed & Coal Co on North State Street was ruled arson. The blaze destroyed 26 tons of soybean meal and grain, damaged equipment, and caused heavy smoke across the complex. Firefighter Dennis Helcher, 22, treated for electrical burns. Call came in at 10 10. Fire crews saved some equipment and one truck.
