A 30 foot 6 inch green snow alligator was crafted in six hours on February 13 at 88 Whippoorwill Dr. The project was led by Mike Iams with Dave Hester and Kevin McIntosh shaping and spraying the figure.
February snow disruption prompts talks on makeup days and funding penalties. Ohio allows five calamity days. beyond that districts face state funding losses. Officials consider post Easter or year end as makeup options while lawmakers push legislation to require makeup days or risk funding cuts.
The Southwest Local School Board will hold a special meeting on March 11 to accept bids for a Crosby Elementary School addition. Architect W Mattson outlined plans and a ground breaking target of April 1 with an estimated completion by August 14 15. The board aims for August 9 completion to ready rooms, but cautions weather strikes and material delays could push dates. A $100 daily penalty plus $25 after the first day may apply to contractors to meet schedule. Also approved Walt Westrich as Assistant Jr. School Principal at 31200 annual salary through July 31 1987 and April 25 1985 regular meeting date.
U S Department of Energy officials will meet Fernald area residents February 21 at 7 p m at Crosby Elementary School to discuss a 130 page DOE study on uranium dust loss at the Feed Materials Production Center. The report released February 13 says 273 units of uranium dust escaped property and no harm to public or employees occurred. NLC blamed for mistakes and oversight while DOE faults itself for late corrective actions. A new on site manager from Tennessee will be brought in as Fernald remains the only plant able to mill components for later use at other sites in nuclear weapons production.
The South west Local Jr and Senior High Music Boosters announce their next meeting on February 25 at 7 30 p m in Room 112 of the high school. Attendees will discuss program needs and upcoming performances.
On Friday March 1 churches across the United States and 170 countries observe World Day of Prayer with the 1985 theme Peace Through Prayer and Action. Christian women of India authored the service urging worldwide gathering for prayer and peacemaking. Church Women United sponsors the ecumenical effort uniting Protestants Catholics and Orthodox in a shared mission across 51 state units and 1,800 locals.
James A. Reafsnyder, 41, named site manager of the Feed Materials Production Center at Fernald. He arrived in Cincinnati last week and will direct plant operations, handle public relations, and push environmental and safety improvements with NLO. He expects at least three years to fix Fernald problems and has long worked with Oak Ridge since 1967. The Harrison Township Trustees note the sheriff’s vacation check service, available by calling 825-1500, for residents away from home through township-contract patrols.
Toria Tolley Hamill, Channel 5 News Reporter, will speak on missing children at Harrison Elementary PTA on March 21 at 7 30 p m. The event invites all to attend. Voluntary fingerprinting for Harrison Elementary children is offered on March 23 at 9 30 p m.
Mayor Harry A. Rolfes proclaims February 25 to March 3, 1985 as National Bakery Week. He notes 32,000 Retail Bakeries and an eight billion dollar industry, praising bakers as small businessmen serving communities and urging residents to visit local retailers.
Governor Celeste proposes school funding boosting Southwest Local district by 6 million over two years. Southwest would get 3,020,300 in 1986 and 3,475,310 in 1987, part of over 175 million in Hamilton County basic aid. Every district is promised at least a 5 percent increase.
