The American Agricultural and Dairy Association met in Philadelphia for its seventh annual convention. Attendees praised the oleomargarine law, urged lawmakers to protect farmers in Congress and state legislatures, and adopted resolutions calling for tariff reform, land law revision to curb land grabs, and universal weights and measures. President Cleveland's letter expressing interest was read, and future actions including lobbying to reelect supportive lawmakers were endorsed.
William Fay a three year old from Acton Massachusetts was born with twisted legs. A Lowell doctor treated him three months ago and today he walks normally with limbs straight though kept in iron rigging until strength returns. Leading physicians call it a triumph of purgery.
In St Louis on September 16 a federal jury in Jefferson City found Rhodes guilty on all nine charges after a four day pension trial. Rhodes a farmer from Pettis County married widow Mrs Daniels then filed and collected her pension using another woman's status, with both spouses forging affidavits to the vouchers. He is described as elderly and frail.
Desvare Iowa Sept. 16 An Illinois Central freight engine and two cars plunged from the Dubuque and a Dunlith bridge draw into the Mississippi River. The engine and train plunged twenty feet of water after the open draw. the fireman leaped free, the engineer was saved with slight injuries as the cab floated away.
Early today a loaded freight train derailed near SouTu Lion Micn due to a removed rail. Fireman Ed Newman was killed, Brake man Campbell fatally injured, Engineer Thomas Davis seriously hurt. The engine and fifteen cars were wrecked and trains have resumed service. Wreckers blamed amid public anger and possible lynching.
A private telegram from Santa Maria reports Commander Vincente Pena of the revolutionary army saying his group of about fifty-five men, thirty armed, were routed by Colonel Hermandez's three hundred men fifteen miles south of Camarg, with seven killed or wounded. The revolutionists reportedly sought refuge in Texas.
In the Sobranje today after opposition, a telegram was resolved to be sent to the Czar expressing sincere devotion and a wish for a long life for him. The measure aims to restore friendly relations with Russia and defend Bulgarian unity and independence.

Official returns from 472 towns show Bodwell with 68,115 votes for governor, Ed wards 54,764, Clark 3,889, with 192 scattering. Bodwell’s plurality stands at 13,351 and a total majority of 9,493.
In Kankakee Illinois this morning David Boyce a deaf and dumb youth was struck by two cars and killed instantly. Police said he attempted to cross a street and was struck near Main and Oak streets. The accident halted traffic as investigators recorded details for the coroner’s inquest.

Sept. 17 report from Roumania states Prime Minister M. Bratianu survived an assassination attempt. A deputy, Robesco, was wounded and arrested. A pistol was used and the blast caused panic as a crowd gathered near the building housing the premier. Police intervened to protect the prisoner and prevent lynching.
In Boston on September 17 Sylvester Fletcher, a Black man, picked up a stone and struck a six month old child in a carriage of William Callahan, delivering a fatal head wound. He was captured by bystanders and claims hunger led to the act, seeking arrest to obtain food.
Ottawa Sept 17 inquiry at the Customs Department shows the fishing schooner Pearl Nelson seized at Prince Town for landing twelve men during the night. The master returned the next day but the officer had already seized all. It is understood a $200 fine was deposited, but no action taken yet by the Customs Department.
El Coyote the famed rebel chief and four lieutenants along with six followers were reported killed in a clash with National troops under Colonel Valdez near Santo Domingo ranche close to the Lampasas Mexico border yesterday.
St Petersburg reports official harvest estimates for winter wheat at 65,000,000 bushels, down about 1 cent from last year, spring crops up about 1 percent or 28,500,000 bushels, rye slightly higher, oats at 90,000,000 bushels and barley at 22,000,000, both at full average.
New York reports 185 total business failures in the past seven days, 152 in the United States and 33 in Canada, up from 178 the prior week and 190 two weeks ago. Pacific States and Canada remain above average. other regions show lighter casualties.
In Hotchinson Kansas James Heihir an elderly soldier was discovered in his bed with his throat cut and his head nearly severed. He lived alone and is believed to have died by his own hand with an old butcher knife. He had probably been dead several days. Cause unknown.
Soria Sept. 17 The Sobranje voted a grant of five hundred thousand dollars to pare all of Prince Alexander's property in Bulgaria retaining one hundred eighty five thousand dollars from the sum to liquidate the Prince's indebtedness to the National Bank.
St Louis report states the Central Committee of the United Labor Party, including Knights of Labor and the Trades Assembly, issued a call for a convention on October 7 to nominate a full city ticket. The act is described as a declaration of principles.
Rome reports six cholera deaths and sixteen new cases in Taranto for the 24 hours ending yesterday. Across other infected Italian districts there were thirty-seven new cases and fifteen deaths.
In Pierspunen Pennsylvania a riot erupted in the Fourteenth Ward as Italian and Irish residents clashed over a marriage. Late yesterday evening in Lafayette Maryland Harry Snider, a known young man, was walking with a friend when a woman rushed up and threw cayenne pepper into Snider's eyes. In Parkersburg on September 19 Harry Lapole seven year old son of William Lapole was attacked by a savage bull near South Mountain West Virginia. The bull gored him in the back and side as the boy lay down. A dog tackled the bull by the nose and held it until help arrived to carry the injured boy away.
In Curiaco on September 19 Carl Hummel, longtime rag-picking worker, vanished and was later found dead in his old shanty. Investigators uncovered a small leather trunk containing several deeds to Chicago land, suggesting possible fortunes tied to unknown heirs or authorities.
Douglas Smith, an officer and agent of the United States in the Post Office Department, was locked up at the Central District Police Station today on a charge of failing to render accounts for public money received by him.
Mapriv Sept 20 A revolt by Spanish troops in Madrid failed to gain traction as about 300 soldiers deserted and attacked arsenals docks and barracks but were repulsed. The insurgents seized the Southern railroad but loyal forces retook it and scattered them. several officers were killed or wounded.
In Springfield Indiana on September 19 a boiler blast at J B Spalding's nursery near Riverton destroyed the engine of a cider mill. Engineer Barney Elling was hurled 120 feet and died instantly while Patrick Kelly lay 40 feet away. Investigations proceed.

In Troy New York on September 19 a farmer Dexter P. Wager fled with his wife and mother-in-law, then returned and killed his three year old daughter by slashing her throat from ear to ear. After a struggle he was captured and jailed.
Port land Me Sept 19 Wm E Gould cashier of the First National Bank of Portland has been found to be a defaulter. Directors estimate the bank will lose up to 87000 dollars.
Charleston dispatch reports a strong quake in Summerville on the morning of the 17th. Brown's Hotel, a wooden structure six hundred feet long and forty-two feet wide, was lifted and shifted several inches to the north. The tremor also toppled several chimneys.

Lemore Canada September 20. C.5 Hayes editor of the Traver Tidings was shot and killed while with his fiancée Miss Lulu Smith in Dr Lovelace's house. A. Leeover, jealous of Hayes's attention, is under arrest on suspicion as the unknown shooter fled through a street wire screen door.
A four story importers warehouse owned by J Wallace Wakem & Co near the North Clark street crossing of the Northeastern railway collapsed early today. The interior is a total wreck and damage to storage is not yet estimated. Contents valued at over 160000 dollars.
Utica dispatch reports three men drowned when a rowboat capsized on the lake at Cazenovia tonight. The victims were Fiske Howe of the steamer Lake View, William Tuttle the engineer, and Patrick Hays a laborer. the remaining man swam ashore.
