Pittsburgh Pa September 14 a balloon ascent by aeronaut Prof Warner ended in a rapid descent after the gas balloon burst. He landed unharmed but scratched after the craft struck a chimney and scraped along a house. He noted the danger of adding a second passenger.
Ratry O Laure sues Columbus, Chicago and Indiana Central Railway for 1800 for salary as clerk from 1877 to 1879. Warden at Columbus Penitentiary faced shop closures over 8100 owed by American Harness Co. Numerous crimes, deaths, and oddities populate the Ohio news, including a two headed stillborn in Cleveland and a dramatic Cincinnati family reunion after years apart.

Samuel L. Blaine, uncle of James G. Blaine, died at seventy in Ravenswood WV on the 13th. He lived in Maysville most of life, and was among four men who voted for Abraham Lincoln in 1860, for which he was burned in effigy.
A woman Giroux of East Tem pleton Canada locked her children aged four and two in a house to milk a cow. Returning she found the building in ashes and no trace of the children. A negro child burned with two others on a Bateman plantation near Byron Georgia on the 14th. Police Gazette too filthy for Georgians. W Montrose of the New York Police Gazette convicted in Atlanta for distributing obscene picture newspaper and sentenced to pay 1000 dollars or twelve months on the chain gang.
General Superintendent Barton testified in New York that only one incoming and one outgoing track carry 188 trains daily. He noted as many as four trains can depart within six minutes, highlighting the strain on a single track system amid the fatal collision inquiry.
Barbara Miller, colored, was hanged at Richmond for complicity in her husband’s murder in February. Charles Henry Lee, her accomplice, was hanged last month. She died by strangulation after taking the axe and Miller’s body was crushed on the railroad track by passing trains. Authorities say Lee planned the crime. the couple confessed.
Frank Adleman former bookkeeper for Genesee Brewing Company and John Stapean ex-collector were arrested for defrauding the firm of about $20 000 Adleman confessed and turned himself in after fleeing the city due to remorse.
The Independent Labor party of New York appointed a committee to issue a call for a National Convention of labor organizations to be held in Philadelphia on January 12, 1884.
Wealthy citizen Mr. T. N. Hill of New Castle was halted by two masked men on the 16th while traveling from Richburg to Eldred. One held the horses while the other demanded the money. Hill surrendered $1125 and was released. No clues to the robbers’ identities were found.
In Jackson Station near Erie Pennsylvania the death of George Irvine and his two young sons is blamed on possible poisoning. A former lover of Irvine’s wife is involved and the graves will be opened for toxicology tests as authorities probe foul play.
Anthony Hale and John W Edmundson were arrested in Philadelphia on counterfeiting charges. They allegedly issued notes and bonds for weeks and sold some to brokers. A quantity of machinery used to print fake notes was found at Hale's house.
Nelson representing Aggie Hall presents marriage contract with Miss Hill dated August 25 1880 and a Senate Chamber letter calling Sharon loyal wife. Hill asserts contract formed under Civil Code provisions.
Rev Albert F Vedder pastor of the M E Church at West Milton Saratoga County N Y was arrested as principal and Dr James A Patterson of Albany as accessory to abortion The complainant Ann Walter 25 daughter of Silas Walter a farmer of West Milton says Patterson operated at Vedder’s request The woman is dangerously ill but later recovered enough to visit Albany and file the complaint Vedder was jailed as he neared Kingston where he was to preach Both deny guilt
Near Cheyenne a camper Moore killed James Knight and J H Weasel while asleep, then robbed them and escaped. In Trinity Tex mill owner Hurlock and son W H Hurlock were mortally wounded by Roseman. Robert Mayo of Westmoreland Va a Congress member-elect died by suicide amid political tension. Joseph Seballos a neck stab victim in New York by Merlin Sento. both men were cigar makers.
Joun T. Jones, wealthy shipbuilder of Amherstburg Ont, has disappeared amid a quarrel over a window. It is supposed he committed death by his own hand while temporarily insane. Dr O E Newton of Pittsburgh suicided on the 16th with strychnine while under nervous prostration, formerly a leading Cincinnati physician.
At the Trades Unions Congress in Birmingham on the 13th Joseph Arch urged radical land reform to curb emigration, proposing land be made government property. the amendment passed. Reports from the Arctic relief expedition recount Proteus crushed by pack ice on July 23 near Cape Sabine, crews surviving after 600 miles of ice travel. Yantic rescued them at Upernavik.
A Hong Kong dispatch reports an eight hour clash between French forces and the Black Flags between Hanoi and Sontay near the Red River. French losses include two officers and fifty men. Black Flag casualties estimated at five to six hundred. Thirty prisoners were taken and immediately beheaded.
