Scranton PA Sept 13 A cave-in at the Marvine shaft of the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company endangers several miners. One man, an elderly laborer named John Shafer, is certain dead, while six to nine may be trapped. Rescue efforts aim to drill in from the rear after clearing the main passages with a twenty five foot coal pillar.
The American fishing vessel Moro Castle, under Captain Joyce, was seized at Port Mulgrave last Saturday night by Collector Bourinott and crews from the cruiser Houlette for smuggling and customs violations. New York on September 13 Ford Ward declares James D Fish lies about stealing a bag of Government bonds worth 1.5 million dollars. Ward asserts the bag held railroad bonds and that funds were raised to back a 1.5 million dollar deposit the City Chamberlain warned would be withdrawn from the Marine Bank.
New York dispatch says a large petroleum brokerage firm released a circular claiming the British Consul at Batoum told the government in May that Russia's petroleum industry is declining and its chief promoters face bankruptcy. It is alleged the English government kept the report secret as long as possible.
New York on Sept 12 reports an unusual move in the coffee market as Rio prices rise 40 to 45 points from Saturday. Heavy demand from light Rio receipts and unusual European competition are cited as drivers of the advance.

E T Mitchell a longtime Huntington resident died at his West Huntington home at ten o'clock last night from lockjaw following an amputation on his right hand performed by local physicians on the 2nd inst. He had a cancer that nearly destroyed the hand. The death occurred on September 12 in Hentington West Virginia.
A wallet containing over 7,000 dollars lost by Bank Runner Robeson on a Pa streetcar yesterday afternoon was found in the roadway by teamster John Gallagher and returned to the bank intact this afternoon. Gallagher kept the wallet overnight and was rewarded after reading the newspapers.

In Lowell Massachusetts John Shay in a drunken quarrel threw a brick at another man tonight but hit his four year old son on the head crushing the skull. He was arrested.
In Sparta Georgia on September 12 a clash involving several black men led to Mansfield Horton shooting Wash Barnes. The pistol ball struck Barnes in the forehead but glanced off skull without penetrating, leaving only a minor scar.
In Watertown New York on September 10 Edwin Potts Jr aged 24 was instantly killed and his sister was badly stunned when lightning struck their father's house causing a fatal end to one life and injuring another.
Tim MoreE Sept 12 Henry Myers who killed his son two months ago died in the city jail today from starvation. He had resolved two weeks ago not to be tried and refused all nourishment. This morning he endured syncope and passed away at nine.
SiLem Mass September 12. Professor Gurney of Harvard College died this morning in Beverly from heart disease. The obituary notes his prominence in academia and his long tenure at Harvard. He was widely known in scholarly circles and respected by colleagues.
