Washington September 4 The Chickamauga and Chattanooga park commission has received notice that Indiana will dedicate battlefield monuments September 20. The governor and staff state commission officers prominent legislators and delegation members will attend. The Wilder brigade association of Indiana and Illinois veterans will dedicate its monument at the same time with about 1500 expected attendees from both states.
New York police officer Patrick O'Keefe at East 126th Street station was shot in the head and chest by Michael Farrelli in Farrelli's Second Avenue saloon. O'Keefe is expected to die. Farrelli fled and was chased and arrested after a violent struggle amid a mob that attempted to lynch him.
CuicaGo on September 4 reports a Sunday saloon brawl in which a score of men fought until several were injured by flying bullets and the establishment was wrecked.
Thomas Mc Veigh, who traveled from Manila aboard the Grant, will not be shot but receive a life term in the military prison on Alcatraz Island. The sentence follows a murderous assault on Capt. D Wright of Company G, 1st Wyoming Volunteers, after he stabbed companion William Ferris at the presidio before heading to the Philippines.
London dispatches reveal grave tension in South Africa with fears of war. Officials say the Boers may raid Natal on short notice and may join the Transvaal while Natal and the Cape Colony stay quiet unless cabinet dismissals provoke action. Reports cite 30,000 Transvaal and 20,000 Orange Free State forces ready, and calls for funds to ease distress.

Mrs. Nancy J. Wilson, aged 74, was struck and killed by a C. and O. train in Manchester Ohio. The regular train had just passed when she began to cross the tracks.
A Daily Mail Chronicle dispatch from Christiania reports Baron Von Tell a Russian has bought a sealing vessel and will lead a polar expedition into the north next spring.

He plans to sail to Puerto Plata then proceed to the capital as preparations for his reception unfold amid public enthusiasm. A separate report notes Gen Pichardo, Monte Christi governor, surrender near Billa Lobos as Figueroa’s fallen government falters.
Dispatches from Nagasaki dated September 3 report the transport Morgan City struck a reef in an inland sea eight miles from Ononuchi and 250 miles from Nagasaki at about 4 a.m. September 1. Adjutant General in Washington and General Otis coordinated efforts while the Ohio was to be dispatched. The loss is mainly one of time, as the vessel was chartered and the owners incur the financial setback.

The body of Samuel I. Brown, veteran Big Four freight conductor, was found on a car roof after a brakeman missed him near Sunman. Authorities suppose he was struck by an overhanging bridge span at Vanner's Creek. Brown, about 40, leaves a widow, home in Indianapolis.
War department orders Chicago units the 30th and 32d United States regiments to depart immediately for Manila to report to Gen Otis. The 30th was raised at Fort Sheridan and the 32d at Fort Thomas. The 80th leaves Fort Sheridan Wednesday and sails September 10 from San Francisco. The 32d is slated to depart Fort Thomas the following Saturday with an embarkation set for September 20.
