Brunswick Ga Oct 27 heavy rains for 48 hours left five city blocks underwater central area from Monk street to Mans field Newcastle Street stores flooded including the fire house and jails traffic impossible from Bay to Union streets. Electrical Supply Co out of business as water rose no lights. Northeaster winds blamed by sailors for the downpour. Rail washouts reported on the Southern between Brunswick and Jesup and on the Brunswick Birmingham. All malls belated.
A national association of manufacturers announces a hostile campaign against organized labor. The letters urge members to join the association and oppose eight hour day legislation before Congress. Signature on the letters is David M. Parry of Indianapolis.
Dr Finlay, head of Havana sanitation, notes September health data show a death rate of 17.86 per 1000 and marks a full year since any yellow fever case began in the city. He calls the duration unmatched in local memory.
Rev. Daniel Tenney retired Presbyterian minister died at his home in San Diego on Friday at age 61. He leaves a widow and four children, including Rev. Charles Tenney president of Imperial university in Tien-Tsin, China. Dr. Tenney founded the Western college and seminary for Women at Oxford, Ohio, and had lived in the city for ten years.
Washington dispatch reports Gov Taft stating the Philippines commission has passed an act inviting bids for street railroad electric light and other franchises in Manila. Bids to be opened March 5 1903 and will be advertised at home.
New York reports 194 U S business failures for the week ending October 24 down from 203 the prior week. Compared with last year 233, in 1900 161, 1899 211, and 1898 219. Canada shows 23 failures versus 15 last week.
Memphis boxing? Actually harness racing. A $10,000 side match race was set for one heat at half a mile in Memphis on Oct 25 between pacers Sir Albert S with 2:03 and Prince Aler with 2:03% speed.
In Oneida Tennessee on October 25 a collision of double header freights on the Cincinnati Southern killed fireman Charles Hurtt. The wreck unleashed a blaze destroying both locomotives fifteen cars two residences two stores and a tool house.
Washington October 25 The secretary of the treasury selects the site for the Lawrence Kansas public building at the north west corner of Winthrop and New Hampshire streets priced at 0 500 (sic).
New York, Oct 27. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, famed woman suffragist, died at her West 94th Street home of old age. She remained conscious nearly to the end as her family gathered. Funeral planned for Wednesday with interment at Woodlawn cemetery.
Diamonds valued at eight thousand dollars were stolen from the Wocher and Weinman firm vaults in the Masonic temple. The theft occurred Saturday night or early Sunday morning. A watchman on duty reported seeing nothing suspicious. No crew was identified.
Manila Oct. 27 Twenty seven thousand dollars have been realized from the sale of food supplies in Batangas Laguna Luzon Mindoro. Sales were conducted to aid the people and led by Gen. J. Franklin Bell. The funds were turned over to the insular government and will be expended by the civil commission among Batangas Laguna and Mindoro peoples.
The strike commission met in Washington with operators and miners present to plan the investigation of wages and conditions in the anthracite region. They set a start next Thursday at 9 am for mine and miner home inspections beginning near Scranton. Discussions included appointing an expert accountant to audit wage statements if needed, with no firm decision yet.
Cold Springs Harbor New York October 27 coroner held inquest into the death of John Volkman an 18 year old barber killed during a medicine show at Thespian hall Charles Meinel of the touring company shot at a volunteer the apple on the head Volkman opted to participate missed two shots then struck Volkman in the forehead causing his death within an hour Meinel arrested on a manslaughter charge Volkman who died lived with his German parents.
An explosion at the Fairmont powder works 18 miles from the city wrecked the plant injuring no one. About 600 kegs of powder detonated, machinery was destroyed, iron was hurled for miles, and the earth was torn up to a depth of 40 feet, totaling about $30,000 in damage.
Waterbury Christian Endeavor society and Epworth League held a mass meeting at First M E church and voted to present petitions to Mayor Kilduff and Assistant Attorney Kellogg asking them to use measures to stop the proposed boxing match scheduled for November 8.
New York on October 27 reports the death of Thomas Embley Osman known by his pen name Alfred Ayers. He died Sunday following an apoplectic shock suffered September 29 at age 76 or 77. Renowned for The Verbalist The Orthoepist and Some Illused Words he also wrote on elocution.
Twenty two passengers on a trolley car in Yonkers were injured when the car collided with an automobile Sunday. The crash happened in front of Grey Stone, the home of the late Samuel J. Tilden.
Staunton Illinois reports Edward Schmidt member of local football team injured in a Sunday game with a St Louis team and died within ten minutes. The coroner will hold an inquest.
Augusta Georgia police report a bicycle officer Charles Walker fatally shot his wife on Chaffee Avenue Saturday afternoon and then killed himself. A note in his pocket read At the mercy of Tiberius.
New York October 27 Wall Street believes J Pierpont Morgan contemplates a giant lighting trust. It would aim to control the electric lighting system of every great city in the United States.
London dispatch reports Boer leaders Kritzinger Fouche and Joubert addressing a Cambridge audience Monday night when a hostile crowd pressed in. Kritzinger climbed a wall to flee while Fouche and Joubert were escorted to their hotel by police.
Maj. Gen. Corbin stated that Maj. Gen. S. B. M. Young will be the army's next lieutenant general and added that his promotion will be enjoyed by no one more than himself. The remarks were made Monday in Washington.
Circuit Attorney Folk said an inquiry will start in a few days into charges of false registrations in some wards. All cases will be presented to the grand jury.
Secretary Hay and Mrs. Hay will travel with Rev. Dr. Hamlin of Washington to Simsbury Connecticut on Saturday for the dedication of the Hay memorial chapel honoring Adelbert Hay.
In Omaha on October 28 Judge Baxter sentenced Anton Christensen in district court to life imprisonment for killing his wife on August 25. The murder occurred without warning to the woman.
Tien Tsin reports Yuan Shi Kai, governor of Pe Chi Li, has been appointed minister of commerce. He will hold supreme authority over mines railroads telegraph and all commercial affairs of the empire.
Kingston Jamaica October 27 German steamer Hercynia arrived from Colon reporting heavy fighting in interior Colombia as revolutionists press while government troops are recalled for isthmus service. At Savanilla fever and privations kill soldiers and bodies lie unremoved on the pier. Disease is widespread along the coast and locals are unable to assist cargo handling.
Carbondale Il October 27 Frank M Flagg ticket agent of the Illinois Central railroad at Texas Junction on the Cape Girardeau branch is missing and the contents of the money drawer are gone. Officials doubt murder though suspects were seen around the building before Flagg disappeared. The loss is not believed to be large.
Gov. Yates III returned from a three day Southern Illinois campaign tour to his Springfield home where he was placed under a physician's care. His Sunday night temperature reached 103 degrees and officials fear a protracted illness.
Grand Master P. H. Morrissey and Vice Grand Master W. G. Lee arrived in Chicago to support about 7000 yard men in the district who have demanded a five cent hourly wage increase. Railroad officials have been notified that a reply is expected by next Friday.
Huntington WV Oct 27 United States Consul Alonza Garrett of Landa Mexico reached the consulate Saturday night after 20 days wandering with friends in the Sierra Madre mountains with little or no food. The hunting party became water bound during the trek. Garrett is a native of Huntington.

Author Frank Norris of San Francisco has died from complications after an appendectomy performed three days earlier. The novelist achieved fame with The Octopus and was a leading figure in American literature.
A Belt railroad locomotive pulling freight cars collided with an electric car outside the city limits Sunday afternoon near Chattanooga Tennessee. Seven people were injured including seriously J L Eaton and Charles Harris both residents of Chattanooga.

A boiler explosion at Bingham in Talladega Alabama on Monday wrecked the building and injured seven people. Three Negroes suffered serious injuries while Mrs James Jimbaugh and her young son were badly hurt on the sidewalk. Mrs H W Henderson and G W Kershaw across the street were also injured.
Pottsville Pa Oct 28 The repair shops of the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company which had been operating half time since the coal strike began resumed full time Monday Nearly 1 000 workers were suspended because of the strike and more than 800 returned to work on Monday with the remainder to follow in the next few days

The Prague court opened proceedings against Alois Mueller and Peter von Schleda on charges of trafficking in forged patents of nobility. It is alleged Mueller duped buyers of patents to the tune of $100,000.

In Waterloo Iowa on October 28 14 year old Harry Pash son of a prominent farmer was stabbed and fatally wounded by 14 year old playmate George Kelly during a quarrel. A jackknife was the weapon and Kelly has not been arrested. He is an orphan who works for local farmers.
John Nall Jr of Nall and Rods shot Kemp Eversole at the Knoxville LaFollette and Jellico railroad camp. Eversole, foreman for the firm, reportedly threatened to shoot Nall, who fired in self defense, killing Eversole instantly.
It is expected that the expedition against the sultan of Bacolod will leave Camp Vicars Min danao about November 5. It will consist of detachments of artillery infantry cavalry and engineers and friendly natives.
