A Missouri wedding record reports that twenty one couples from northern counties plan to marry simultaneously in one ceremony and place. A banquet for 20 guests will precede a bridal tour by the brides and their new husbands in a joint celebration across the state.
Ottawa Ont October 26 The Metlakalian Indians are in revolt and threaten a massacre of white settlers if the prisoner held for Yeamans murder is hanged An incident near Victoria BC saw four German hunters surrounded by Indians their rifle discharged wounding an Indian and triggering fears of revenge by the tribe The incident was reported to the Indian Agent at Métlakalian and the arrest is described as an outrage likely to be avenged
The Second Auditor of the Treasury releases for the year ending June 30 1884 an initial tally of unadjusted accounts and claims on hand July 1 1888 totaling 41928 with 36112 tied to pay and bounty. Added 25741 new claims including 14919 for arrears. Of these 48988 combined claims laid with 42681 unadjusted on June 10, recommending a statute of limitation to curb delayed payments.
The Agriculture Department reports October corn crop condition at 93 percent, near the ten year average, with about twenty six bushels per acre on roughly 70,000,000 acres. The Mississippi to Rocky Mountain region shows the highest figures slightly above normal. no state east of the Mississippi reached 100. Lowest readings include West Virginia 73, Ohio 74, Louisiana 74, Texas 80, South Carolina 83, drought caused the reductions.
Flames discovered in the Colton mine last night. Entrance closed today as authorities fear spread to adjacent Anchor mine. Colton area comprises about sixty acres of coal land and eighty coke ovens. Anchor mine has one hundred coke ovens and a larger coal tract.
In Hollyoke Massachusetts on October 26 Mrs Flanagan a diligent local woman learns a New York savings bank holds a $10 000 fortune from an eccentric sister who died two years ago The bank has sought her for twenty three months and she was unaware her sister had died until the notice arrived.
Baltimore Md October 26 Michael Croghan seven son of a Mid district policeman was run over by Hall of Passage Railroad car No 5. He was instantly killed the boy's head severed from his body lay beside the rail and the body on the opposite side.
Scranton reports the decomposed body of John J. Jordan aged twenty two was found in a ravine by boys in the MiNooka woods. He disappeared on the 18th of last month. The watch and other property remained undisturbed and officials suspect heart disease as the cause of death.
Peoria Illinois October 26 State Veterinarian Paaren arrived in the city yesterday and began examining horses for glanders. He found four last night and had them appraised and killed. He also found a mule in the same condition and had it dispatched. He believes many more will have to be killed.
James N. Lea formerly of New Orleans and resident of Lexington Virginia died in Wilkesbarre at Charles P. Hunt's residence on October 26. He was a leading New Orleans lawyer before the war and served as presiding judge of Louisiana's Superior Court.
A secretary, William Holyoke of San Francisco, accused of embezzling 1560 dollars while serving as secretary to M Hurlburt of Chicago and Erie Railway passenger agent. He was arrested today and sent east by Benjamin Kimbal of Denver, Erie Railway passenger agent.

Emmett Mitchell of Buiack River Fats Wisconsin, while intoxicated, claimed he killed a man in Ohio. He was arrested for the murder of Charles Griffith in Belmont County on September 2.
Three inches of snow fell at Greenville Maine during yesterday and last night. Bancer reports the measure as observed in the state. The storm disrupted travel and brought early winter conditions to the region.
Foreign news from October 25 details Lapatin the Nihilist leader captured after a struggle at Newski Perspective and linked to the murder of General Menzeneff. In Warsaw, twenty students and several girls were arrested as Nihilists. Paris reports a radical student fired at King Leopold at Lacien. the would be regicide was arrested and news suppressed. The Duke of Brunswick was buried in Brunswick Cathedral amid mourning as crowds filled the streets.
New York marks Sir Moses Montefiore’s 100th birthday with global synagogues offering a special prayer. The secular observance occurs at Chickering Hall by the Young Men’s Hebrew Association, with philanthropic tributes from the United States’ Jewish Benevolent Union and other bodies.
The one hundredth anniversary celebration began in Baltimore with services at Lloyd Street Synagogue led by Rev Krauss. Rev Dr Xich of New York gave an oration on Montefiore. The altar was decorated and prominent Israelites attended. Events continue tomorrow at Hanover Street Synagogue and other orthodox temples.
Washington October 25 The Secretary of War announced he will end abuses in officers hypothecating their pay accounts before maturity. He told a firm heavily involved in such cashing that the system is ruinous to the service. A voucher form with strict certification would prevent any officer from signing ahead of due pay.
The Central Pacific Railroad filed a list of lands selected under acts of 1862 1864 and 1865. It covers about 123 miles from San Jose to Sacramento with near four million acres. The lands are settled and largely cultivated under homestead laws, and the claims conflict with railroad rights and with each other.
Washington October 25 The next president will appoint two major generals and two brigadiers as four regular army generals retire for reaching sixty four years. The officers slated for retirement are Brigadier General Auger on July 10 1885 Major General Pope on March 16 1886 Inspector General Sackett on April 14 1866 and Major General Hancock on February 14 1888.
Albany October 25 The Salvation Army of Brooklyn was incorporated today its objects include evangelization mutual improvement in religious knowledge furtherance of religious opinion and missionary purposes and establishing branch corps in cities towns and villages led by officers appointed by the president of the society.
Alex Campbell of New Cumberland Virginia, living seven miles from Steubenville, fell while coming down stairs this evening and broke his neck. He was seventy two and father of John A. Campbell, former West Virginia legislator.
Concembus Oct 25 A lady Mrs Taylor of East Liberty Ohio mixed rat poison in a pie pan. She baked a pie in the same pan a day or two later and was dangerously poisoned though hopeful of recovery.
Wheeling Ohio Valley October 25 The dispute between operators and the Nailers of the top mill over break ages was settled today and work will resume full in all departments Monday morning with no further interruptions.
The J. R. Hutchins home in Montreal was destroyed by a blast today. Two servants were badly injured, one possibly fatally, as investigators probe the cause of the S explosion at the residence in the city.
A violent fire damp explosion at a Uniontown area coal mine traps about 25 workers in the sixth right hand flat. Rescue attempts hindered by flames and damp air. By nightfall two men are dead and four injured. many others feared dead as efforts continue to reach the shaft. Six escaped as reports describe delayed relief and dangerous roof collapses.
From San Francisco the Arabic reports a typhoon on September 15 that leveled Yokohama settlements, wrecked 128 houses and damaged 89, and sank or disappeared over 50 vessels with 223 men lost. Four lifeboats were swamped, ten crew drowned, making it the severest storm since 1870.
Wilbur F. Storey, owner of the Chicago Times, died at his residence in this city at a quarter to ten tonight after two years of business incapacity following a paralytic stroke in Europe four to five years earlier. He had been sinking for two days and was unconscious today until his peaceful rest.
George W. Stoutenberg enburg a wealthy Chicago resident and former partner in Lord Stoutenberg Co. ended his life yesterday morning at his Lakeside residence by shooting himself in the right temple with a 32 caliber revolver. His sadness followed the death of his daughter two years earlier.
