In Winona Minnesota October 21 Lena Weinberg long a Huff House housekeeper was found to possess a fortune hoarded over thirty years. Four trunks revealed gold coins and large currency hidden with false bottoms. A cousin reported that she spoke of money. upon discovery $10,300 in gold and over $4,800 in bills were recovered. The source notes the mystery of the funds' origin and the housekeeper's modest wage.
Seven Earnmoor crew members, rescued after drifting for days in a cyclone, endured extreme hunger and thirst. They survived by eating seaweed, a caught flying fish, and later a sea bat whose blood they tasted, with two named survivors from Baltimore and Philadelphia. The ship was largely owned in Philadelphia.

Blanche Nelson appeared before Justice C J White in Chicago on October 18 charged with disorderly conduct after a drunken scene at Halstead and Madison. She kissed several men, grabbed a clergyman, drew a crowd, and was jailed briefly as a patrol wagon arrived. She was fined five dollars plus costs.
An explosion at Bryant's Switch coal mine fifty miles south of Arkadelphia occurred when a miner's lamp ignited a keg of powder, triggering coal dust fire. Sixteen men were inside the 500 foot shaft. rescue work began before dark as authorities battled the blaze and injuries, with four men reported seriously injured and possibly fatally harmed.
Four were horribly burned and, at last accounts, were not expected to recover.

In Brunswick Georgia on October 21 Dan Mitchell was killed by his wife after an earlier confrontation. He attacked her with a knife. she drew a pistol and shot him. No arrest reported.
The U S District Court at Drs Mores Oct 18 dismissed the Schlitz Brewery Company of Milwaukee case against Iowa City Temperance Alliance officers. The beer carload seized last February was ordered returned, but 35 kegs were frozen and destroyed. Judge Shiras ruled the court lacks jurisdiction and rebuked the brewery for retaliatory prosecution.
Mac Taylor a seven year old colored boy shot his four year old brother and buried him in the garden while parents packed cotton. The elder took his uncle's pistol and shot the younger in the back, leaving the body covered with sand and leaves.
Lisson Oct 21 The funeral of the late King will probably be held Saturday next in the Royal Pantheon. Tonight the body with the Royal family departs for Belem to lie in state at the monastery of St Jerome. A deputation from the German Regiment, of which the deceased was honorary Colonel, will attend.
Robert Berrier, a young white man who killed his mother in law at Lexington North Carolina, was seized from an Lexington jail by a masked mob and hanged. He had been captured Sunday and returned for a preliminary hearing when the mob battered the jail door and removed him.
In Daavson Georgia on October 19 three children were killed and three seriously injured when walls of a cotton warehouse collapsed during a fire. Two of the dead children were aged 4 and 6 and were sons of Judge J H Gurry. The third victim was a colored child.
Austin October 19 The Capitol Freehold Land and Investment Company of England filed its charter with the Secretary of State. The firm aims to develop three million acres of capitol syndicate lands in the Panhandle region of the state. Its capital is set at 15 million dollars.
In Memphis Tennessee on October 21 a mob of Black people killed a man accused in a Lake Cormorant Mississippi case. The man confessed to his captors and was strung up near a railway trestle by a pile driver.
John Phillips barn at Poplar Grove burned Friday night. A tramp entered the building, smoked a pipe, went to sleep, and the hay caught fire. The man was cremated. only three bones were found.
Fire at the Kessler residence six miles south of Van Wert Ohio last evening at seven burned the home. George Kessler’s six year old daughter died in the flames and his sister in law, a young woman doing housework, died at eleven o'clock from severe burns.

Bastrop Louisiana October 19 Jim Wilson a ten year old colored boy was convicted in the circuit court here for burning Spyker s residence He is said to be the youngest person ever convicted in this court.
In Ritchie County near Ellenboro, Thomas Dye shot Edward Schofield in the breast with a musket. Twenty seven heavy slugs struck Schofield, causing instant death after a quarrel started by Dye.

Maprio Oct 19 The Sultan of Morocco crossed a swollen river returning from an interior excursion but twenty of his body guard attempting to swim or ride their horses were swept away by the flood and drowned.
New Haven Ky Oct 21 An early morning freight train No 32 collided with an open switch at Nelsonville causing seventeen cars loaded with coal and lumber to wreck. An unoccupied house owned by W H Crady was demolished. No injuries reported.

In Decatur Indiana forest fires have burned for two days damaging crops fences timber and farm buildings. J T W Luckey's farmhouse was destroyed with a loss of 2000 and farmer John Tonnellier lost a valuable stable. Several nearby outbuildings also burned as wells and cisterns dried up and stock suffered from lack of water.
