A Missouri Pacific excursion train near Rock Creek Station Missouri was tele scoped from the rear by a Wichita express killing one woman and injuring three men. The cars were carrying travelers to Kansas City to see Grover Cleveland.
Gloucester Mass Oct 13 The schooner Thomas L Farr sailed August 19 from this port with fourteen crew members. It was later found on a fishing voyage and is now given up as lost with all aboard.
Houston Texas October 14 Tonight as Missouri Pacific passenger train 453 pulled from Spring Station two men boarded the train one on the baggage car and one on the engine They demanded orders with a six shooter The fireman George Lyne jumped from the engine and clung to the rear of the train The robbers fled into the woods before passengers and crew were alerted The fireman’s daring saved the train from robbery
Philadelphia reports a grocer James McCurdy poisoned eggs with arsenic to kill rats. Mrs Margaret Rutz, 58, died and several relatives fell ill after eating the eggs bought at 2204 Front Street. August Hoffman and family members also poisoned. McCurdy arrested.
A boiler exploded at a Centerville saw mill last night in Parkersburg West Virginia killing three workers. Erwine was torn apart by the boiler and log. Kent Evans was killed. Tompkins died later from injuries.
The Globe Democrat reports a probable lead smelting trust forming among Western firms to stabilize American lead markets. The Eckstein White Lead Company of Cincinnati and four other large firms reportedly will not join the trust.
New York health authorities announced that there is no danger to the city from cholera despite patients brought in aboard the steamer Alesia. No new Hoffman Island cases since October 7, and the Alesia passengers remain in exceptionally favorable sanitary condition.
Fire at Murray and Wilsons children’s dress goods establishment early today was extinguished quickly. Mrs George Goodman trapped on the fourth floor suffocated after reaching the first floor while attempting to escape.

ToLepo Oct 14 report a large planning and saw mill at Cignet burned in the morning. Four men slept in the third story. two escaped with severe bruises, while the other two were burned and their charred bodies were recovered from the ruins.
Attorney General Ayres and Commonwealth Attorneys McCabe and Scott were released from jail tonight by U S Marshal Thomas W. Scott. They are at the Exchange Hotel on parole, or constructively in the custody of the marshal.

In Charleston on October 16, citizens pursued a 13-man gang who killed Mr. Ryan of Walton. In a confrontation near Sissonville, George Duff Jr was killed and Jake Coons was lynched. Five officers were wounded, and prisoners Duff, Drake, and Shambling await vigilante disposal. Vigilantes press on to capture more gang members and end a spate of robberies.
In Toledo Ohio on October 16 the three year old daughter of H W Compton superintendent of the public schools met a horrible death. While playing in the parlor her mother left the room and a scream followed. The child was found in flames and burned severely on face and body. She died within moments.
Burglars entered the Strauss and Hecht clothing store around three in the morning by removing a glass from a rear door and carried away goods valued near one thousand dollars. A posse pursued the robbers, but as of mid morning no clew had been found. Hicksville, Q.
SHAMOKIN Pa Oct 16 The Union Coal Company has ordered foremen to remove all workers who cannot speak or understand English. Managers claim miscommunication causes serious accidents and endangers lives with Hungarians and Poles identified as most affected.
Wong Chin Foo of New York an enlightened Chinaman and author of Why I am a Heathen is in Kingston Ontario in a rage. Though assistant inspector of the New York port he was appraised tagged and taxed by Customs on entry to Canada facing a fifty dollar duty.
Cuiiaco Oct 15 The Finance Committee ratified a settlement with E A Robinson based on State Attorney Grinnell's recommendation. Robinson relinquishes all claims on 6200 held back and turns in warrants totaling 1371 making 13500, which he says is the amount the county was swindled.
WashIndon reports Indian Agent Jesse Lee Hall appointed July 28, 1855, found defaulter for over $20,000. The Secretary of the Interior directs the Attorney General to begin criminal proceedings.
In Fairmount Illinois on October 16 Miss Florence J Lies married Levi Wilcox a young farmer last Thursday. Since the wedding the bride has inherited 50000 from a rich Coshocton Ohio aunt.
In New York on October 15 imports of gold reached 3,883,450 dollars while exports of specie totaled 107,621 dollars mainly silver. Merchandise imports for the week were 7,512,804 dollars, including 1,775,205 dollars in dry goods.
Diphtheria rages in Ramapo New York and Staatsburg prompting closures of all schools. Many children have died and others are dying as the community remains deeply unsettled by the outbreak.
A half finished building intended for the Mission church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in One Hundred Fifteenth Street collapsed in New York on October 17. Five men were killed and about twenty seven workers injured as the thirty foot span of floor beams failed and walls weakened by recesses and window openings crumbled. Reverend Father Kinner, supervising the construction, was among the injured and blamed for unsafe methods. The disaster followed a premonitory shake and left a debris field of brick and timbers.
Jamestown reports a blaze at the Kent House six story hotel and about a dozen cottages on Lake View avenue were damaged. The hotel burned completely and losses reach $125000 with $36000 insured among twenty six companies. Cause traced to a lamp explosion in the hotel laundry at 530 this morning. The employer barely escaped.
Wilkes Barre report says a large gang that robbed freight cars on the Pennsylvania railroad for years was captured in a cave on the North Mountain. They raided at night and hid the loot in a quarter mile long cave, using lanterns to guard the entrance. Thieves sold stolen goods to peddlers and goods worth thousands of dollars were recovered.
Petitions were presented at the Monday morning church meeting by a large number of local churches asking the closing of saloons within one block of every church and school in the city. Catholic and Episcopalian ministers joined in the effort and favorable action is expected by the mayor and common council.

A skiff carrying six men capsized in the Allegheny River near Foxburg today while repairing the Foxburg bridge. Two brothers, J Neville and H Neville, drowned. The remaining four men managed to stay afloat until rescue by nearby workers.
A two year old child of Charles Gossett in Chattanooga Tennessee died after its clothes were ignited by a fire in a grate. The accident occurred in the evening and the child suffered severe burns from the shoulders to the feet, with no chance of recovery.
During the voyage of the schooner A. McMichael from Boston, Captain Libbey and two sailors Melvin Holmes and Elbridge Foster were lost overboard near Macuras on October 16.
Harrison a Pa October 17 William Fountain aged twenty three was instantly killed at three o clock this afternoon when a shifting engine ran over him in the yards of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. He had been married only two months.
