Buckingham Quebec October 9 two men were killed and a dozen wounded as striking mill hands clashed with provincial police at Mac Laurens sawmills. Authorities drastic measures quelled the riot and further trouble is not expected.
In Little Rock on October 9 Judge R J Lea of the Pulaski circuit court instructed the grand jury in the Argenta lynching case. He told the jurors that every member of the mob was a murderer and should be hunted down.
In New Haven on October 9 Captain Sohems and five crewmen clung to the capsized British schooner Oceanic for 14 hours before rescue by the auxiliary yacht Alpha owned by Arthur C. James of New York. They were brought to port safely.
Chicago October 9 Capt Michael J Ehret of the Chicago fire department was killed and fireman Charles Slahize fatally hurt when the Evanston flyer on the Chicago and Northwestern railroad struck a fire truck at Estes crossing in Rogers Park.
New York October 9 The will of Albert J Adams the Policy King offered for probate does not reveal a vast estate at first glance. The bulk of the estate goes to his family with the rest to his named beneficiaries and associates from the life insurance empire he built.
Jefferson City Missouri October 9 Division No 2 the Missouri supreme court denied Mrs Aggie Myers a writ of error to the supreme court of the United States Her attorneys may now apply to one of the judges of the United States supreme court for such a writ.
In Owesso Michigan on October 9 a 12 year old schoolgirl Bessie Gerady died by suicide after taking poison in the presence of four classmates. Authorities say sensational novels she read may have influenced the act.

Piqua Ohio police arrest an alleged alterer of checks and drafts who refuses to talk. A suspect, sought by postal authorities for months, tried to cash a seventy dollar draft at Harry Nickler's clothing store but aroused suspicion. The draft was traced to a state bank in Auburn Indiana where it originally listed seven dollars. Found on the suspect were inks and chemicals used to alter checks. He gave the name J S Moore and has aliases James Hart James Smith Thomas Kennedy. Postal authorities hold him.
A fire gutted the Wilker Manufacturing Co shed at Jackson and Water streets causing an $18,000 loss and threatening downtown. Hoseman Walter Wilcox fell from a lumber pile and was bruised while Ely Westfall was overcome by smoke. both were treated at home. The blaze is believed arson and marks the plant’s second fire in under a month.
In Toledo Ohio the initial registration day this year was weaker than last year. With 67 of 138 precincts reporting, 2,592 registrations were counted. Projections suggest the total first day registrations will barely reach 5,000.
Deputy State Fire Marshal J W Williams investigating Gallipolis fires caused the arrest of Owen Boster on the charge he burned his grocery store on the morning of September 27. He was held to the grand jury.

In Cleveland Ohio a baby girl was found tied to the central pier of the Scenic park bridge over the Rocky River. The coroner ruled the child murdered.
Gloucester O 41 reports Sedalia mine owner Will Smith has departed and claims totaling about 4000 dollars have been filed against him. Workers reportedly remain owed two weeks of wages for their labor at the mine.
In Columbus the state emergency board approved payments to Supervisor J. W. Johnson totaling 11,962 dollars for completing composition and 6,600 dollars for binding the work now in his possession, aimed at easing pressure on the printing department.
In Cleveland two clerks J. W. Bunts aged 30 and Harry Wilfred aged 17 died after tumbling from a fourth story window of the Lake Shore railroad office building during a fatal struggle. They clutched each other as they fell and remained entwined until impact. Bunts died instantly. Wilfred died en route to hospital.
Judge Dillon refused a writ of habeas corpus for Private Alfred Welsh of the Fourth Regiment O N G held for disobeying a call to suppress mining troubles in Jefferson county. He ruled military law governs when no contrary statute exists, allowing arrest and detention without charges for a reasonable time.
A Muncie Indiana man identified as Edward Stark swam into Lake Erie's waters near East Seventy ninth street in Cleveland to escape imagined pursuers. A United Salt Works worker rescued him, and Stark was later jailed.
Mrs. Lucretia Burbank attacked Mrs. George Henninger with carbolic acid during a dispute over entry to a house. The acid burned the forehead neck and eyes and may threaten the victim’s sight. The incident occurred in Warren Ohio amid ongoing family quarrel.
Athens Ohio county commissioner 8S B Hil faced charges from Otto Barth alleging padding a gravel bill. Magistrate Rose discharged Hil after testimony showed the county received more gravel than paid for.
Youngstown Ohio police officer Will Burke shot and killed Don Petie in a pistol duel during an attempted arrest in the East End. Burke and a second suspect opened fire. Burke returned fire, killing Petie while the other man escaped.
In Steubenville Ohio Mrs Lester Clark was struck and decapitated at a Panhandle crossing where trains moved both directions. Watchman Wm Conley rushed to aid her and was fatally injured.
George Fetter of Mansfield died aged 55 in a quarry accident at Bowers & Co. when dynamite appears to have exploded in the blacksmith shop.
A high wind and heavy sea on Lake Erie drove the steamer Denton with two barges in tow aground on the east shore of North Bass near Put in Bay. Barges were sent to release the Denton and free the vessel.
Sandusky Ohio Major Seymour Race aged 83 formerly of Cleveland and member of a high standard family shot himself at the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Home.
Archie Sitler left with two boyfriends who urged him to steal a freight ride from his brother. He jumped from the train later and was killed instantly, in Columbiana, Ohio.
