In Greenville Ohio on November 23 Mrs Charles Hefflinger of Arcanum struck her husband with a bowl of hot ice causing him to flee to a neighbor's home. She chased him and embedded the blade of a hatchet in his back as he tried to wash his eyes. She then cut her throat with a razor. Both are seriously injured with the husband possibly blinded and the wife near death. Authorities deem the woman insane.
In Columbus Ohio on November 23 a drug clerk mis gave morphine instead of quinine, causing the death of five year old Maud Lindsay daughter of Rev. Dr. W. C Lindsey pastor of the First Baptist church. Separately in New York a man jumped from the Brooklyn Bridge into the East River and drowned, a clear case of self inflicted death.
National Republican Convention coverage reports Clarkson of Iowa chosen as chairman with Barbour of New York as treasurer. Cincinnati loses prestige as Illinois and New Jersey figures react while Utah representation is noted. Northern Ohio endures a damaging storm with heavy rain and wind, snow near Cleveland and structural damage in Ashtabula and Akron.

Terre Haute Indiana November 23 The United States government has become involved in the Alum Cave Mining district dispute over Polish miners. Emigrant inspector Cornelius Kelley is en route to the Alum Cave region to investigate the facts and determine if the Poles are subject to the contract labor law. If violations are found, federal court proceedings will be started in Indianapolis against individuals or corporations importing them.
