In Catawissa Pennsylvania a farmer John Gearhart and his large family faced a diphtheria outbreak. Two nine year old girls died within a day, an infant died earlier, and two girls aged fifteen and six, plus two boys, remain ill with hope of recovery as others mourn.
In Baltimore on November 22 an attempt to poison a whole family occurred at 26 Wyoming Street. Rough on Rats was mixed into buckwheat flour used for cakes. John Jackson Alice Carlin and Willie Parker were in critical condition after eating the cakes. A colored man named Reed is under arrest on suspicion of placing the poison.
Dr. Allen Cope, a leading MicH. dentist, lost his left arm above the elbow and sustained a breast wound when a vulcanizer exploded yesterday afternoon. He underwent amputation and remains in critical condition.
John W. Cudlip of St. John New Brunswick, long a customs officer, was found burned to death in his bed this morning. He had retired early and it is believed he fell asleep while reading as a lamp upset.

Davenport November 22 T J Davis of Carbon Cliff was found dead in a field under circumstances suggesting self inflicted death. John C. Crawford of Holliday Cave died last night in Steubenville Ohio from lockjaw following a splinter under his thumb. The injury became infected and led to tetanus complications.
Boston November 19 Eugene J and John A Sullivan father and son were convicted of manslaughter for the killing of John F Driscol last summer. Sentence was deferred.
