In New Orleans on November 12, workers denounce a negotiated settlement as treachery. Five labor-representing committee members are blamed for selling out core demands. A thousand people, including whites and blacks, crowded Exchange Alley as drivers’ unions crumble and street car contracts are revised with union and non-union workers mixed.
From eighty-eight counties reported on November 12 the Democratic gain over 1888 stands at 10,071. Marion Crawford Warren Fountain tallies are estimated to add 326 more Democrats, with four counties yet to report. Official count unlikely to diverge much from these figures.

Chaplain W R Dudley of the penitentiary published his annual statistics report. Of 1,054 criminals admitted that year, 131 distinct crimes are listed, burglary and larceny totaling 182 incidents. Religious breakdown shows Methodists prominent, Catholics 223, Baptists 129, Presbyterians 82, Lutherans 52, Christians 19, United Brethren 19, Episcopalians 18, Disciple 87 have no church, plus six Hebrews, one Mennonite, one Seventh-day Adventist and one Shaiker.
An early analysis indicates the Democrats will control about 100 seats in the fifty-third Congress, with fusionists and third-party members likely aligning with Democrats on tariff reform. Southern states favor Democrats while New England leans Republican, and the Northwest shows a mixed result with several districts uncertain. Portland, Ore Nov 2 Me Thompson of this city has received a telegram from Secretary Fos ter offering the post of minister to Turkey to succeed Solomon Hirsch who has resigned. Thompson will take the position if he can start by December 1 and can adjust his private business affairs.
Washington reports Ivan Petroff a former Census and state department agent was caught giving false information to the government about Alaska seal industry. The matter relates to Behring Sea arbitration preparations and the Behring Sea case before arbitration.
Pirrspukgh Pa November 15. The employer of J Painter & Sons iron works notified Monday the mill would run only a single turn instead of three as previously. Superintendent H Harper cited lack of orders as the reason for the change.
In New York on Monday Thomas Parr an Englishman and Manuel Rodriguez a Spaniard were arrested for counterfeiting They conspired with an engraver to produce a plate for Cuban bank notes valued at forty dollars each with the aim of flooding Cuba and South America with vast sums of fake money.
Canonsburg Pa November 15 The iron and steel company here which planned tin plate manufacturing and ordered machinery has abandoned the project and cancelled the machinery order.
In Columbus Ohio on November 15 a presidential pardon was received for Charlie Cass, an inmate from Mobile Alabama serving two years for violating postal laws. The pardon comes from President Harrison and was delivered to the penitentiary authorities.
In Homestead Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon a violent clash erupted between non union men and Carnegie strike supporters. Over fifty shots rang out on Fourth Avenue causing panic as crowds gathered, depu ties intervened and armed confrontation continued near a boarding house with colored workers involved. Police struggled to restore order as residents fled and threats of further violence loomed.
Washington reports indicate Senator John Sherman intends to retire to private life after a lengthy congressional tenure. Despite earlier reluctance, he agreed to seek re endorsement but now seeks a peaceful exit. Independent factions in South Carolina presented a mixed delegation lineup for Congress. In Samoa, officials fear developing trouble and plan to deploy an American warship to safeguard U.S. interests.
Columbus Ohio November 14 The Republican state committee reports full county returns showing Harrison leading with a plurality of 871 and S M Taylor Republican candidate 1 054.

In Parkersburg West Virginia on November 15, Capt Mooney a Republican and Joseph Mc Cabe a Democrat vowed that if Harrison won the Democrat would eat a live rat and if Cleveland won the Republican would perform the feat. The crowd saw Mooney attempt the task and eat a cooked rat at seven o'clock the next evening.
