At Clarksville Tennessee, Wednesday Harriet Wagner cut her husband Bailey Wagner in the stomach with a knife. The wound pierced the intestines and is described as very ugly and deep. The act occurred during a jealous fit and Wagner is expected to die.
In Cincinnati a fire at Oscar Oaken & Co. ruined the picture frame factory on West Second Street. A 44 foot ladder failed as Capt. Conway and five firefighters climbed it. Captain Conway and Lieut. Borklage died from injuries. Captain Hurley and three others were injured, one severely. A man in the cellar suffered severe burns and did not survive.
Frank Laffin was cut by a cattle guard near Cumberland on November 10. Dr Craigen, county physician, stitched the wound and demanded $2 payment. When the men could not pay, he threatened to undo the work, then cut the stitches. Craigen heads the jail almshouse and asylum and serves on the Pension Board.
Bripeport, Ct November 10. John Kopp a German cabinetmaker hanged himself in the cellar of his home. He was among the city death by own action club members and helped with many funerals. He expected his turn soon and was the seventeenth to die by suicide. Two other members still living are expected to act.
The court of claims on Monday dismissed suits by Indiana Ohio and Illinois against the United States seeking the two percent fund from Cumberland Gap road sale proceeds totaling 1.5 million dollars. It ruled the fund not a trust and barred by the statute of limitations. an appeal will be filed.
Washington reports that 824000 ounces were offered to the treasury yesterday and 89000 ounces were purchased at prices ranging from 0.95 to 0.9525 dollars per ounce.
The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is printing the face of the new two dollar Windom note and expects it ready for circulation within a week. The back was printed several weeks earlier.
