A saloon owned by Peter Kempf in Russiaville Howard County Indiana was blown up with dynamite around one o clock this morning. The blast destroyed the bar area and damaged part of John Orr’s livery stable office. A sleeping man there was knocked unconscious for hours. No clue to the culprits. Kempf had been denied a liquor license by local commissioners and appealed to the Circuit Court with a venue change to Clinton County. He operated under Government license while awaiting the next court session at Frankfort.
At ProvapaetPpuia Ohio October 28 a boiler explosion at Holden's fire-brick works in Funeral Point fatally scalded Frank Harter James Milward W Louterstagie and a boy named Graham and seriously injured five others. The blast hurled a boiler head two hundred yards to a quarry as crowds rushed to the scene.
Knoxville Texas October 28 Hon W E F Milburn of Greenville was acquitted this morning of murdering Wm Ward in a case tied to the recent prohibition election. Ward, nineteen, armed himself to defend his mother’s saloon after Milburn a noted prohibitionist charged her with crime. Milburn’s attorneys argued self defense citing imminent danger and a pistol in his pocket.
London reports a union once led by Joseph Arch and Thomas Taylor now holds a reserve fund near 100000 dollars. Justice Charles was asked to transfer fund custody from trustees to a bank, expressing surprise at the organization’s substantial financial accumulation.
