Washington May 19. The senate voted 6 to 41 to refuse consideration of a resolution to investigate alleged Alabama election frauds in the Kolb Oates contest. Attorney General Harmon left Washington Saturday for Cincinnati and will be absent until Thursday next.

Fatal Benzine Explosion Destroys Philadelphia House
An explosion of benzine at 2103 North Twelfth street Philadelphia badly wrecked a three story dwelling and set it on fire. Rosa Griggs 21 was fatally burned. Mrs. S R Bentley and daughter Sadie 21 also burned. The occupants planned to leave for the country Tuesday. Mrs Bentley had sprinkled benzine on carpets and parlor furniture as a precaution.

Pay of Non-Commissioned Officers Bill Passes
In Washington on May 19 a Senate bill appropriating 200000 for a public building at Deadwood South Dakota passed and another bill regulating non commissioned officers of the army. After July first their pay ranges from 23 dollars per month for sergeants major and sergeants to 17 dollars per month for corporals with various rates for artillery cavalry and infantry. The act does not bar future increases for longevity service or retired list pay.
