The centennial pageant marks Harrison's 100 year journey from Washington to Elizabethport and New York. Prominent officials greet him at Governor Green's mansion, with a grand naval and military display. TheDispatch leads a harbor parade as thousands watch the tribute.
The May 9 1889 report describes President Harrison and Mrs. Harrison visiting New York with Vice-President Morton. A public reception at city hall drew about 6,000 viewers before they went to Morton’s residence, then to Stuyvesant Fish's home for dinner. The Metropolitan Opera House hosted a grand Centennial Ball with elaborate floral decor and 6,000 attendees. Extensive greenery and thousands of azaleas, ferns, palms, pansies, tulips, and hyacinths filled the venue.
