Opening of the World's Columbian Exposition Opens in Chicago
President Grover Cleveland and a host of officials presided at the opening ceremony of the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Amid rain, crowds converged from depots and steamboats as the machine shafting started, cannons boomed, flags unfurled, and a diverse international procession moved through Michigan Avenue to the Administration building.
