Terrible blast at Anderloes colliery near Charleroi leaves many dead and missing. Rescue fronts blocked by debris and fourty horses bodies hindering access as gendarmes struggle to maintain order. Relatives recognize victims among scorched corpses while a fourteen year old girl is reported among the dead.
A test of an underwater explosive projectile, devised by Ericsson and labeled the olds destroyer, will be conducted at Fort Wadsworth under board of ordnance fortifications. Gen Schofield will oversee, with Wadsworth used for land and sea tests. The weapon carries dynamite, travels underwater, and must strike water at a precise angle to detonate.
London reports the great coal miners strike begun by the miners federation plan. At 2 PM Saturday miners in Lancashire Cheshire and Yorkshire halted work while surface and support staff stayed. Austin Texas March 15 lawmakers convened in a special session to elect a United States senator and discuss amendments to the alien land law. They also planned changes to the railroad commission law and other important measures.
Ohio lawmakers advance numerous bills across Senate and House from March 7 to 11. Proposals cover public hospitals in counties lacking them, election and jury rules, street railways, ditch law, and outlawing certain crossovers at crossings. Several measures affect schools, roads, public buildings, and weather service. The sessions also authorize bonds, guard rails, and new governance rules for villages, townships, and colleges.
Milwaukee dispatch reports Gen. Edward S Bragg pressing Grover Cleveland to publicly declare his presidential candidacy. Cleveland replies from Lakewood New Jersey, quoting his duty to country and party, favoring open nomination and party deliberation over personal ambition, urging thoughtful action for tariff reform and national prosperity.

Reuben Dresbach of South Bloomfield Hocking County reports possessing a large eagle shot last Friday. The bird bore a brass collar inscribed with an unreadable name and the letters O V I 1865. A gold ring sits in its beak. The monster bird fought while being captured and resembles a veteran regimental relic from the Civil War era.
